"Heya Girls!"
How do artists explore our present? How do they work and think? The new Kunsthalle Atelier has a fascinating offer: You can work together with artists. The new workshop series for adults offers the opportunity to be inspired, learn a variety of techniques and create your own works of art. This Saturday is all about sewn stories – quilts that speak. Artist Deborah Hazler, known for her performances, dance and textile art, will show how to get creative with quilting – the joining of layers of fabric. Quilts tell stories, display messages and provide a surface for communication. Appliqués are made from scraps of fabric or old clothes, which are then sewn onto larger fabrics. No previous experience is necessary as the basis of the work is the simple running stitch, which can be learnt quickly. Fabrics and materials will be provided on site. However, you are welcome to bring your own fabric remnants or textiles!
Wishing you a creative week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Daniela Pes
Who did this too? Babbled with your friends as a child in a completely made-up language and still managed to communicate perfectly? Sardinian singer-songwriter Daniela Pes may be an adult, but she actually still does it. At least in her songs. The avant-gardist has her background in jazz, but her unusual music likes to meander between Sardinian folk, electronics and experimental music. You can find out what that sounds like live tonight when Daniela makes her vocal chords vibrate and the synthesiser glow at the Radiokulturhaus!

Those of us with green thumbs are already waiting in the wings, because the big balcony and garden planting campaigns are about to start again! And even if you don't always admit it – you do like to have the most beautiful bed ;-) Today you can create your own decorative spruce-up material in the pottery: At a workshop, DIY queens will learn how to pot, paint and glaze their own garden plugs. The plugs are then fired to make them waterproof and frost-proof. Envious neighbourly glances at basil, tomatoes and sage are guaranteed ;-)

Der Zigeunerbaron
We are reporting again from the programme for the Johann Strauss year – but it's just really very good! Today, the operetta “Der Zigeunerbaron” is experiencing a revival: The story of Sandor Barinkay, who is supposed to marry the daughter of the rich pig farmer Zsupan in order to inherit his fortune, has been revived by successful author Roland Schimmelpfennig. He has brought the crème de la crème to the stage, with none other than star actor Tobias Moretti playing the role of the pig farmer and the music band Franui providing the right sounds – that’s how to make Strauss cool!

Violetta Parasini Trio
Violetta Parisini is one of the few people who can deal with her weaknesses in such a melodious way. As a trio with Peter Rom on guitar and Hanibal Scheutz on bass, the Viennese musician presents what that sounds like today. With her songs, she weaves a magic carpet that gently and warmly wipes away a few tears and makes you laugh out loud. Narratively sober, sweetly sarcastic and extremely exciting, she sings of emotional worlds that we all know but perhaps have not yet put into words. To fans & future fans: Violetta is currently crowdfunding for her new album!

Egon Schiele: Last years
We know it from ourselves – a lot of changes happen in the course of our lives. Above all our taste and, as a result of that, often our style as well. Egon Schiele was no exception. The Austrian artist started out with experimental drawings, but towards the end of his career these changed into increasingly realistic and sensitive paintings. His strokes calmed down, became more flowing and organic and his subjects gained in physicality. The Leopold Museum is currently showing 130 works that were produced during Schiele’s last creative period. Something different!
Leopold Museum, Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna. Until 13 July. Daily except Tuesday 10:00 to 18:00. 17 €. Web

Dancing out of line
The title sums up what this is all about: The dance studio “Ich bin o.k.” (I'm ok) is no ordinary dance studio, after all, but aims to make the art of rhythmic movement accessible and inclusive. Today, the studio shows just how nice this can be with its new production, for which exhibits from various Viennese museums served as a source of inspiration. These objects will be brought to life during a number of dance performances by 110 children, teenagers and young adults some of which have disabilities. So, it's just really out of line ;-)

Dior
Christian Dior once called a green evening dress “Autriche” – a sign of his admiration for Austria. How happy he would be if he could see the brand-new Dior boutique in the Goldenes Quartier! On a majestic 1,000 square metres, star architect Peter Marino has created a stunning Dior universe that houses all the brand jewels under one roof: from prêt-à-porter, bags, shoes and jewellery to fragrances and living objects. Eye-catcher: the “Toiles blanches”, which line the spiral staircase over three floors and stand at the beginning of every haute couture Dior design.

Al Castello
The Viennese just can't seem to get enough of pizza ;-) Yet another pizzeria has opened its doors, this time in a particularly beautiful location – in the grounds of Hetzendorf Castle. Neapolitan pizza is now being baked in this historic setting – by no stranger, as Samuel Rocatello was previously the chef at Pizza Mari. So it's no surprise that the menu includes not only classic dough wheels, but also something unusual. If you want, you can treat yourself to a tartufata with truffle cream or a contadino with gorgonzola, walnuts and pears. And for dessert, a delicious tiramisu. Nice!
