"Heya Girls!"
As some of you know, I bought a 500-year-old house in the Waldviertel. It's a lot of work (renovating!) and I also run seminars there. But because I can't keep still and because I'm also curious, I recently started a Waldviertel blog. I write about everything I come across in the Waldviertel – from gourmet tips to lost places, from hikes to places of power, from portraits of interesting people to the exciting history of the house I now get to live in. And at some point, I will also blog about the renovation of “Ottilie” – because that was an adventure of its own kind. Oh, and at Christmas I found a treasure in the attic: a box of photos and documents from the period between 1880 and 1950. As soon as I know who the people in the photos are, I'll write a story about them too. I would be delighted if you would check the blog regularly so that I can entertain you with stories from the Waldviertel. For it's a magical place and not at all far from Vienna ;-)

Wishing you a spring-scented week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

30 Plants a Week
Eating as many different plants as possible gives our microbiome and immune system extra power! At least according to cook book author Katharina Seiser. In her new book “30 Pflanzen pro Woche” (30 Plants a Week), she explains that eating a wide variety of vegetables, fruit, pulses, seeds, herbs and spices every week keeps us healthy and fit. In addition to Katharina's own recipes, you can also get the right nutritional inspiration from the vegan and vegetarian recipes from popular chefs and contributions from two scientists. Today is the book launch and tasting!

 Katalena
Katalena
Slovenian folk music made cool – that's what the six-piece band Katalena does! And not, as you can imagine, in an entirely conventional way, as they interpret everything according to their own personal preferences, using original instruments such as the beak flute, trombone and ukulele. The basis for this is the conviction of the timelessness of traditional music and the proof that it is not a relic believed to be lost, but a vital tradition. Katalena are stars in Slovenia, have played in every club, concert hall and festival in the country and have toured the USA and Europe. Live today!

Zero Waste Fashion Exhibition
Zero waste – meaning the processing of perceived waste – is best known from the food scene, with nose-to-tail dishes or crisps made from potato peelings. Well, what tastes good in gastronomy also cuts a fine figure in fashion! This will be demonstrated by fashion-savvy Japanologist Gabriel Baradee together with 10 guest labels in his store Shakkei. The exhibition uses sustainable production to interactively show what a sustainable fashion world could look like. PS: The models, accessories and even patterns on display can be shopped on site!

Something as fascinating as our planet should be celebrated. That's why “Earth Day” is celebrated all over the world on 22 April. This year, the University of Vienna extends the big day by inviting you to the Geozentrum. There, interested visitors can travel to the stars in the mobile planetarium, explore Vienna's geothermal energy with VR glasses or create their own earthquake. Plus, workshops where you can look at 16-million-year-old micro-fossils from the Vienna Basin under a microscope. And for more action: a research rally takes place on the Marketplace of Science. Melodies of Life
They were sung and played in the face of death during persecution. Jewish fates are hiding behind the melodies of life that helped people survive in the ghettos and camps or bid farewell to this world. Many of the works were almost lost, but the “Melodies of Life” project is bringing them back to the stage today. For this, acting star Iris Berben will be lending her voice to the victims of National Socialism, while she is accompanied by the clarinettist and founder of Lebensmelodien Nur Ben Shalom and the Nimrod Ensemble. 14,000 Kilos – A Weight Loss Battle
Oh dear, the bikini season is about to start and the body shamers are already in pole position. Captain (and director) Maria Sendlhofer sets sail with a heavyweight ensemble to finally conquer the 14,000-kilo monster of a whale, inspired by the literary classic “Moby Dick”. Turbulent waves become a constant up and down of kilos, and the commands to the ship's crew become a drill in the fitness centre. Body fat, discrimination and your own body insecurities – that's what it's all about here – and, above all, saying goodbye to them. Really funny!

The exhibition at Galerie Slavik – a special place for contemporary jewellery art – shows that art does not always have to take the form of paintings or sculptures. The two jewellery designers lsolde Baumhackl and Jacqueline Ryan are currently exhibiting their precious pieces here. While Isolde focuses on sculptural, geometric neck jewellery or rings, Jacqueline impresses with antique-looking pieces. She draws inspiration for her gold and glass enamel treasures from Egyptian or Etruscan artefacts. If you fall in love while looking – you can also buy!

Climate Change & Feminist Perspectives
Climate change and power structures – who is pulling the strings where? And what role does feminism actually play in shaping a just future? Landscape planner and gender & diversity expert Bente Knoll explains this today. In her lecture, she will shed light on the connections between climate policy, social justice and gender issues. There will also be an active discussion on why a feminist perspective is essential for a sustainable transformation. The Cake Tree Cafe
Hmm... For those with a sweet tooth, this is the place to be! There already was a Cake Tree Café once, but now it has a new owner and instead of colourful cakes, it serves pimped up classics. For example, the Linzerschnitten are baked with spelt, the poppy seed cake is flourless and the loaf cakes surprise with original ingredients such as pumpkin seeds. If you live true to the motto “the early bird catches the worm” – yes, buttery-crispy croissants are also offered here. Served with tasty coffee variations or cold drinks.
