"Heya Girls!"
It's not every day that a new museum opens its doors. But this Friday it will! The “Foto Arsenal Wien” – the City of Vienna's new exhibition centre for photographic images and lens-based media (that's what it's called these days ;-) – is launched with a big party. Covering around 1,000 square metres of exhibition space, the “Foto Arsenal Wien” now shows the entire spectrum of the medium with about 8 to 10 exhibitions per year. The programme always combines internationally renowned artists with young talents and undiscovered positions. The programme starts on Friday with many speeches by the mayor & co, followed by concerts from 20:15 and a party with DJ sounds into the night. There will be a programme of free events throughout the weekend.  On show will be the group exhibition “Magnum. A World of Photography” and the solo exhibition “Clean Thoughts. Clean Images” by Simon Lehner. There will also be plenty of guided tours and exciting workshops in the darkroom and studios: You can make photograms, collages and cyanotypes!

Wishing you a spring-like week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Jeanne D'Arte
Jeanne D’Arte
When you switch on the radio or scroll through Spotify nowadays, you do sometimes think to yourself: It all kinda sounds the same, doesn’t it... Well, Jeanne D'Arte definitely sounds different! The self-taught artist has her roots in dance, drawing, acting, stage and costume design, as well as graphic and communication design, and it shows! Her galactic genre of ethereal electronic pop, art pop and triphop is genuinely surprising, and the matching song videos have a way of really hypnotising you. Today she will be singing live at a 7Stern living room concert.

Orchid Exhibition
Gorgeous! Numerous exotic flowering wonders are currently exhibited in the convent garden and orangery of Klosterneuburg Abbey. For 2 weeks, international collectors and growers show their most magnificent orchids. Aside from well-known species like Phalaenopsis and Cattleya, enthusiasts also find rare varieties. If you want you can also buy the queen of flowers, and there are also supplies and decorative accessories plus advice from pros. And the convent garden, the “secret garden” next to the baroque imperial wing, is always worth a visit anyway!

Viktoria & Viktor
Yay, the time has come! The last two months have been full of excitement, as the slow fashion label Viktoria & Viktor had been announcing its relocation for quite some time – and here we are: The new place to be for quality basics made from Vieböck linen, Tencel or Lenzing Ecovero is in Porzellangasse in the ninth district. Viktoria Peschl has not only opened her new shop here, but also her studio again where she now offers products from like-minded brands alongside her own sustainable capsule range. The big opening party is tonight!

Bra Fix Friday
Every woman is probably familiar with this dilemma when shopping for underwear: finding a bra that doesn't hurt, presents its contents as aesthetically as possible and also looks good. Once we've found that rare piece, we go to great pains to take care of it. And that's where Katharina Strasky comes in: If your favourite piece of lingerie is a bit battered, the lingerie seamstress gives it a makeover once a month on “Bra Fix Friday”! Straps can be shortened, backs tightened or elastics replaced, for instance – until your bra, panties or bodysuit look like new again!

This year, 90 galleries from five continents will be exhibiting solo presentations by their artists at the Spark Art Fair. The Dirimart Gallery from Istanbul, for example, is showing the photographic art of Cihan Oncu, theStable presents paintings by Vera Klimentyeva about the political and social conflicts in her home country of Russia, and at the stand of Walter Storms Galerie, Laura Killer's reliefs made from matches and wax can be seen.

LichtStrauss
Wow, so pretty! At the beginning of spring, artist Victoria Coeln transforms the city park into a three-hectare work of light and media art. In keeping with the Johann Strauss Year, the light installations show seven strong women of our time, based on strong women from the composer's operettas. Today is the opening – and that means lots of light spectacles and partying on both sides of the Wien River! DJ Feine Töne and DJ Functionist together with female performers will make sure of that. And every evening until the end of May, you can stroll through a park landscape illuminated by abstract lines and floral ornaments.

“Land by the river” – Austria wouldn’t really be viable without the Danube. And Vienna definitely wouldn't. Reason enough to pay homage to the mightiest river in Central Europe! Singer-songwriter Ernst Molden agrees and grabbed drummer Maria Petrova for a little concert. Where will it take place? On the Danube for an all-round experience, of course! So today it's off to the MS Kaiserin Elisabeth, where Molden sings about the bizarre-absurd rather than the idyllic, such as the bloodthirsty “Göösn” (mosquitos) – directly on the lauded river opposite the Danube wetlands. Buffet included!

Always new, always sensational and always long! This year's participants include Michael Hufnagl and Gabriele Kuhn from Kurier, Teresa Präauer from Süddeutsche Zeitung, Julya Rabinowich from Standard and Klaus Nüchtern from Falter. International Puppet Festival
Puppets and figures set the tone at the Schubert Theater, and this year's international puppet festival celebrates this once again. Today, for example, the Austrian premiere of “Monologue of a Punschkrapfen” takes to the stage, in which a Punschkrapfen (punch cake) raises its voice – as a sweet but complex symbol of the Austrian soul. Also included: “Ur-Venus – oder ur nicht die Venus” about the Venus of Willendorf, who, as a table puppet, takes a stand on what her true symbolism actually is. Plus: The final part of the Habsburg trilogy “Habsburger: A Trauerspü”. Cool!

Garden City Visions in Penzing
Urban green-oases are all the rage today – but they are actually not so new. Industrialisation brought growing cities, but it also divided them: living space here, green space there. In response to that, the garden city movement promised a balance to unite urbanity and nature as early as the 19th century. Today you can get to know three such Viennese projects as part of a guided tour in the 14th district: the utopian Eden estate from 1921, the visionary “City of the Child” from 1974 and the international model estate 9=12 (2007). Really fascinating!

Hiking for Peace
If you want to set an example, but find demos a bit too much hubbub, this is the right thing for you! The “Hiking for Peace” association organises hikes for more tolerance, environmental protection and peace. Today about 10.4 kilometres through the vineyards and meadows of Stammersdorf, for instance. There is walking, chatting, enjoying nature and the retired shepherd Hans Breuer even provides musical accompaniment. A refreshing cake break is of course also planned and those who wish can stop off at the Wieninger wine tavern at the end. Fun and social!

rodama: Convergence
Both are creative, artisanal and more or less obviously art: culinary art and painting. Juan Amador has already proven himself in the former – after all, you don't own the only restaurant in the country with three Michelin stars just because. For a few years now, Amador has also been expressing his creativity on canvas under the artist name “rodama” – and now he is presenting the results at the Nitsch Foundation. A little preview: As in the kitchen, he prefers minimalism. His deliberately blurred works are often created with just three primary colours. Today is the vernissage!

Garth.
Garth. is coolness. Garth. is attitude. Garth. is definitely good taste! The singer-songwriter from Brooklyn creates a special liaison of classic soul, nostalgic R&B, hip-hop and reggae that perfectly honours the diversity of black musical heritage. Garth. is inspired by legends such as Earth, Wind & Fire or Prince and thus brings a lot of cheerfulness to his songs – which, by the way, is also reflected in his dopamine fashion look ;-) Garth is currently on tour in Europe and is presenting tracks from his new album “Good Taste” as well as earlier hits at The Loft today!

Who wears the trousers?
Whether meticulously pressed or in a casual baggy look – they are a global phenomenon and everyone owns them: trousers. In its special exhibition, the Weltmuseum Wien takes a journey through 3,000 years of trouser history from all over the world, from the oldest types of trousers from the Bronze Age to the present day. On the basis of 120 exhibits, the significance of this item of clothing is explored, both in concrete terms using cut shapes and in a figurative sense with trouser words or trousers as a symbol of male entitlement to power and female emancipation. Interesting!

Consistent Fantasy is Reality
That sounds spacey! This glittering, glamorous musical theatre rebellion about respect, oppression and freedom takes place in Turkish, English and German and is a crossover piece between opera, pop concert, theatre and revue. Turkish musician Gaye Su Akyol tells the story of how she travels through Istanbul in her minibus and collects passengers: a conservative man, a socially engaged teacher and a queer person. But suddenly the minibüs is abducted into space, where a secret organisation is fighting against the power of individuality and has its sights set on Earth!

Great news for shoe aficionados: The Wunderls are back! And Vienna finally has a Wunderl boutique! And it's quite the opposite of the former big shoe store in Sollenau: Instead of masses of luxury brands, here you'll find a fine selection that Andrea and Franz Wunderl select with a great deal of expertise according to their own taste. Nevertheless, there is something for every occasion and style: stilettos, flats, trainers, loafers and even matching shoppers. And there in “Little Paris”, on the most beautiful square in Servitengasse right next to the church, the pub (where Harald Brunner used to work) has a new owner. The many wooden furnishings have been freshly refurbished and the menu was changed to classic pub cuisine.
