"Heya Girls!"
There's news from Waldviertel again! As I already told you last year, I bought a 500-year-old house next to Schloss Ottenschlag and turned it into a creative centre. It has mighty thick walls and crooked corners, but also an incredible amount of charm and furnishings straight out of a design magazine. After a successful soft opening phase in autumn, things are now really taking off: The first courses are taking place at Ottilie! The spring/summer programme has been finalised and is online. You can immerse yourself in the art of ikebana, create beautiful things for your home with found objects from the forest, learn how to turn your product into a (cult) brand or make flower brooches. And there will be several writing courses with my daughter and me, of course. Hiking and writing in the footsteps of Hundertwasser or diving into family history. By the way, everyone who has visited Ottilie so far has felt right at home ;-) So come on, ladies, you can sign up as of today!
Wishing you an exciting week

Domo Emigrantes
The outside temperatures may be blizzard-like at the moment, but there is a good antidote to get you in the mood for holiday vibes anyway – its name: Domo Emigrantes! The quartet has dedicated itself to the musical traditions of southern Italy and the Mediterranean region and delights with jazzy timbres of violin, guitar and percussion. They are joined by the Kurdish saz, ethnic flutes, fujara or bouzouki, allowing ears and hearts to travel to distant regions. Today, the handsome boys bring their arrangements to the Sargfabrik and give you an idea of how bellissimo the summer will be!

Magnum Masterpieces & Polaroid Still Life
A must-see for photography fans: From today, the OstLicht Gallery will be showing a double exhibition with some sensations from the history of photography. On the one hand, there are the “Magnum Masterpieces”, which present prints by eight of the most influential representatives of the legendary photo agency, such as Eve Arnold and Elliott Erwitt. Here, photography takes centre stage primarily as a journalistic medium, while the second part of the exhibition focuses on art photography with still lifes: captured with the 20×24-inch Polaroid instant camera. Best of all: All exhibition pieces are for sale!
Galerie OstLicht, Absberggasse 27, 1100 Vienna. Vernissage 20 February 19:00. Free entry. Web

Lost Places in Vienna
Dilapidated, forgotten, abandoned, lost – a good description for “Lost Places”. Whether it's an abandoned factory, a building ready for demolition, a broken-down barn or an unused cellar whose time has come to an end – photographer Lukas Arnold enjoys discovering and photographing them. This is all the more exciting as the building boom in our cities means that places steeped in history are increasingly disappearing. Arnold is currently showing an exhibition of his discoveries, fittingly in the over 100-year-old AlsCafé, which will also soon be a Lost Place.
AlsCafé, Schultheßgasse 7, 1170 Vienna. Until 22 February. Wed-Fri 10:00 to 19:00, Sat 9:00 to 19:00. Voluntary donation. Web

Barbara Pacejka likes to take a look behind the scenes and get to know people and their stories. Like during her live talks, for instance. Today's guest is body liberation activist Martina Charlotte Blum, who uses her Instagram presence to draw attention to discrimination and internalised fatphobia. In her chat with Barbara, she talks about the challenges she struggles with most as a person with excess weight, why she shares her story, what topics she has no patience for anymore and much more. And the audience members can also ask Martina some questions they might have!

House of Strauss
Classical meets electro, ballerina meets breakdancer, opera singer meets rapper and elegant dress code meets hip-hop – that's what's happening at the Johann Strauss party for his 200th birthday! The historic Casino Zögernitz is the venue for a slightly different kind of ball. In a setting full of contrasts, a disruption of Viennese ball culture is celebrated, for which opera singer Hila Fahima joins forces with hip-hop artist Jugo Ürdens and break dance world champion Miracle Smile shows that the dance floor can handle moves other than classic waltz steps too. Sounds really cool!

Angela Merkel: Freedom
She was the first female chancellor and that alone is probably reason enough to take a look at Angela Merkel's memoirs. In her recently published book “Freiheit” (freedom), the former German Chancellor offers a behind-the-scenes look at power and her decision-making process in difficult situations such as the refugee crisis and Ukraine crisis. But she also looks back on the first 35 years of her life in the GDR, her private life, her childhood, youth and studies, and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Today, Merkel will read live from her 700-page book!

Sale at le petit bazar
From the outside, the petit bazar on Porzellangasse looks like a paradise for kids. But if you've ever been inside, you'll know that the grown-ups also manage to fill their shopping bags – maybe even overflow them, as almost everything is reduced by 35%! The reason for this is a little sad, as the bazar is closing its doors, but is already planning something new and exciting. In the meantime, get your hands on colourful stationery, playful jewellery, candles, vases, shoppers and drinking bottles, as well as lots of toys and clothes for the kids. Come on, off we go!

Wier im Hof
It's hard to believe that Neubaugasse is home to such relaxed spots! Just step into the picturesque inner yard at no. 27 and you find yourself at Wier. That's short for “wir” and “Wien”, because that's what it’s all about: The Viennese labels Good Kids Bad Society and Nullkommasiebenprozent joined forces back in 2014 and have now expanded into “Wier im Hof”. Aside from their brands, you also find other sustainable fashion, stationery and decorations made in Vienna and Europe. The selection is really large and unusual – and the location with its high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and cool industrial-style furniture is worth a visit!

Alice
A rose-coloured floor, a dark red ceiling and a lot of mid-century feeling – it's no surprise that this is popular with guests. Alice is such a popular snack bar that you should definitely make a reservation on the weekend. Because there aren't too many tables – and the mix on the menu is original: Scandinavia meets Italian brands. That’s no wonder since that's exactly where the owners come from. During the day, they serve focaccia with all kinds of fillings, and in the evening they serve a little more elaborate dishes such as puntarelle salad. Served with cherry wine from Denmark. And for dessert, Roman maritozzi with whipped cream filling! Worth every sin!
