"Heya Girls!"
An almost unbelievable success story began on 5 April 1874: “Die Fledermaus” (the bat) by Johann Strauss celebrated its premiere at the Theater an der Wien. Within a short space of time, the Strauss piece became – and still is – the most popular operetta in the world. Exactly 151 years later, this Saturday, the anniversary will be celebrated in and around MuseumsQuartier – with a unique Fledermaus Day. Concerts and dance performances will pay homage to the operetta, there will also be a biodiversity show “Creatures of the Night” and a Bat Rave will begin at 22:00 in Hall E. Above all, however, the MQ façade will be transformed into a magical screen in the evening: Spectacular projections will take visitors on a journey through the Strauss universe, in which time, image, music and space merge together. Kind of like fireworks without pyrotechnics – cool and urban. And free of charge too. Dublin has “Bloomsday” after James Joyce and Vienna now has a “Bat Day” ;-)

Wishing you a fluttery week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Thomas Steineder
A Ballet Opera
Even if the title sounds a little stuffy – we are definitely a long way from Swan Lake or The Nutcracker here. In its ballet opera, the E3 Ensemble take an exaggerated and hugely ironic look at the narcissism of the art world, politics and its own self-aggrandisement. Driven by some eccentric singing, dancing and Dada-inspired language, they desperately try to keep the shiny facade from crumbling at any cost. What first begins as a strange and funny performance quickly turns into a crazy horror show. Bizarre, absurd and bitterly wicked!

6 Museums – 1 Evening – 0 Euros
“Going once, going twice, going three times” – that's how it usually goes at the Dorotheum. Today, for a change, there's also a “going fourth, going fifth and going sixth”. This is because the auction house invites night owls to the 6 museums of the Austrian National Library. The State Hall, the departements of Literature, Papyri, Globes and Esperanto and the House of History open their doors for free. There are valuable terrestrial and celestial globes, millennia-old papyri and Austrian history from 1918 to the present day to discover. Great!

 June Kitho
Junk
While strolling around our beautiful city, artist June Kitho often notices something not so nice at all: the rubbish people keep throwing on the street. Inspired by the ancient Japanese technique of gyotaku, she now makes this ignorant throwaway culture visible. Originally, fishermen used it to document their rare catches by dyeing the fish with ink and transferring the prints onto rice paper. June replaces the fish with pieces of rubbish she collects from the streets of Vienna and prints them on second-hand clothes. Which looks surprisingly beautiful!

Biodanza
It's nothing new that dancing makes you happy, but what's less known is that there's actually a technique for consciously dancing towards more joy and joie de vivre. Today you can find out how this works at the Biodanza try-out day. The focus will be on music, movement and encounters. Accompanied by a variety of rhythms, for example from Latin America, the participants interact with each other according to the system by Rolando Toro, who developed Biodanza in Chile in the 1960s. Between two dance sessions, you can chat and snack. Dance skills are not needed!

The Milkmaid
Director Sara Ostertag's latest production smartly transforms the biographical novel “Milkmaid in Ottakring” by Alya Rachmanova into a colourful mix of theatre and musical. In this story, a shopkeeper tries to secure a living for her family in 1930s Vienna. In the original novel, the milk she sold came from a supplier, but in the new version, however, Alya decides to tap into her last resource, her body, for economic profit. A woman's body as a means of labour – whether she wants to or not – is the thesis of the play. Very out of the ordinary!

The English singer with the hydrogen-blonde bob makes music that makes you dream yourself away to an elegant candlelight dinner in a New York townhouse. Soulful and bluesy, flavoured with some gospel and jazz. No wonder Mica Millar is one of the UK's brightest neo-soul stars. By the way, she wrote and produced her debut single-handedly! The result is her album “Heaven Knows” with sensitive songs about human nature, spirituality, love, oppression, inequality and self-empowerment. Today Mica will sing live at Porgy & Bess!

80 years have passed since the end of World War II. While hardly any traces are still visible above ground, the past remains omnipresent in Vienna's underground. Three For Silver
Well, the band from Portland have certainly chosen their next tour spot well. Three For Silver prefer to sing about death, the devil and love – and the Viennese do have a thing for morbid music, after all ;-) The band frontman is Lucas Warford, who is always bringing new guest musicians on board to join him on stage with a musical mix of bass-heavy, virtuoso folk and Americana music and a touch of devil swing. Today, the band will be performing songs from their new album “Modern Man” at the Werk. PS: The wonderful Kendall Lujan will be performing as support!

Cerol seľami! Roma have lived in Austria for many centuries. Nevertheless, antiziganism is still common in many places today. Josef Frank and the others.
Design diversity and comfort instead of Bauhaus and luxurious Art Deco – this is how furniture design in the Austrian interwar period presented itself. On the occasion of the 140th birthday of architect Josef Frank, this is the very theme of the new exhibition at the Möbel Museum. Highlights include Lucie Rie's flat, designed by Ernst A. Plischke in 1928, and a complete set of furnishings by Josef Frank, for instance. But it's not all about the men, the influence we ladies had on Austria's modern living ambience will also be shown by successful architects of the time!

Velvet Dessous
Ohlala, the lingerie boutique amour fou* has moved into a second location: the traditional lingerie shop “Velvet Dessous” – and it's really original! The boutique has existed since 1931 and although it is located in a church building near St Stephen's Cathedral, the lingerie here has never been nun-friendly. Erotic corsetry or the famous pearl thong from Sex and the City have always lolled on the clothes rails. Astrid Lindbergh also retains a kinky corner and bra sizes up to 100G, as well as her amour fou* lingerie and popular swimwear. All surrounded by crystal chandeliers, retro dressers and feather pillows – just like a real boudoir ;-)

Konbini
Well, look here, I've learnt something new again. In Japan, so-called konbinis are a hotly contested market – shops that are a supermarket, restaurant, post office, card shop and newsagent all in one. A konbini also opened in Vienna a few days ago – a mini version, so to speak. You can “only” buy Japanese groceries and Japanese food for a quick break. You can put together your own bowls or eat sushi and wraps on comfy benches in a smart, modern setting. It's also worth taking a look in the fridges, where you find typical Japanese snacks such as onigiri, mochi and rare (!) KitKat varieties. Not a gourmet temple, but it's buzzing.
