"Heya Girls!"
Whether ironed or baggy – they are a global phenomenon, a fashion statement and a sign of cultural identity: trousers. The Weltmuseum is currently hosting the exhibition “Who’s Wearing the Pants?” and the Kunst VHS is offering some fun workshops at the museum in June to go with it. It starts this Friday with “Embroidering jeans in Brazilian style”. And if you don't know what that is, it's a very floral, rather coarse embroidery, very colourful and then spiced up with beads, sequins and tassels (photo). Under the guidance of designer Viktoria Demiray, the trousers are guaranteed to become eye-catching statement pieces ;-) In the coming weeks, we will also be sewing pants, rescuing our favourite jeans, making shirts from trousers and, of course, making lots of legwear. So that we can trudge comfortably through the summer ;-)
Wishing you a well-dressed week,
Your CitySpotterGirl
Weltmuseum, Heldenplatz, 1010 Vienna. From 6 June. Booking via VHS. Web

VOLXkino – The mobile open-air cinema
It's definitely summer – the open-air travelling cinema starts its tour through the city again. The programme features current films from recent years, from major productions to film festival successes (often subtitled) from all over the world. The programme opens tonight at Karmelitermarkt with the Canadian comedy-drama “Universal Language”!

Women's Health Action Week
Alarming: In Austria, the healthcare system is still primarily focused on men! Many illnesses such as cardiovascular problems or osteoporosis, for instance, present themselves differently than in female patients and their symptoms are often not taken seriously. To give us an easy opportunity to ask very specific questions and make use of health counselling, the Gesundheitsnetz Goldenes Kreuz and its partner pharmacies will be organising an action week on the topic of women’s health. A test for iron deficiency can also be carried out free of charge. Top!

The Red Dream Factory
One of the best-kept secrets in Austrian cinema history is undoubtedly the films that were made between 1950 and 1955 in the Soviet-occupied Rosenhügel studios. The intention there was to make films that conveyed progressive ideas in the guise of traditional revues. Now these rarities are returning to the big screen, partly restored and partly in wonderfully preserved Agfacolor prints! Today's film is “Schicksal am Lenkrad” (fate at the wheel) about Franzl, a farmer's boy who, after stealing a car, finds himself increasingly caught up in a relentless system.

Lindy Hop
Swing, rhythm and rebellion: Today you can dance like people did 80 years ago at the Wien Museum! In the 1940s, American GIs brought not only chewing gum and jazz, but also the rousing Lindy Hop to Europe. What was considered “degenerate” under National Socialism was celebrated after the war – in Vienna too. Today, Lindy Hop is experiencing a brilliant revival! After a short lecture on the history of the dance style and a taster introduction to Lindy Hop, everyone can try it out to the sounds of the band Zazous and DJ Papageno!

Salieri - the Salt of Music
A rival friendship – that's how you could describe the relationship between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri in their lifetime. Ever since Salieri's death 200 years ago, however, he has always been fully overshadowed by his rival. Today offers a good opportunity to follow in Salieri's footsteps: The composer can be rediscovered during a number of musical tours and concerts. In addition, a quartet will be playing a kind of Salierian Schubertiade through Schönbornpark with stories, singing and some special encounters!

Franziska Wanninger
Born with the rising sign “you weren't a planned child”, but equipped with a good dose of humour, Franziska Wanninger learned to turn adverse circumstances into wonderfully funny stories very early in her life. She tells of the cool aspects of growing old, goldfish that died far too early and the abysses of her not at all normal family. Today, the Bavarian grenade brings her new programme to the stage: “Wenn du wen brauchst, ruf mich nicht an” (if you need someone, don't call me”) – because who likes to admit that their own advice sometimes backfires ;-)

Today, Arena 21 in the MQ will be turned into a hotspot for everyday heroes: the Red Cross is hosting a summer blood drive with vitamin mocktails, a DJ and a raffle. Few things scream “summer” more than the many shades of red of juicy summer berries! Fruity, fresh and full of flavour, these little fruits are currently spicing up the lunch menu at Clementine im Glashaus and bringing the sweet side of summer to your plate. Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries are the perfect accompaniment to seasonal ingredients and so the currant ends up in the asparagus and coconut port wine soup, the purple asparagus is served with pomegranate and, of course, strawberry tartelettes are a must. Sistas
So much cheering for a comeback is more typically associated with boy bands idolised by girls, but the Sistas' reunion is also causing quite a stir ;-) After a decade of change and personal development, the powerful-voiced female trio of the 2010s has found its way back to each other and has even expanded the group. Today, the six-piece female band will heat up the stage and take their audience on a journey through the emotional world of blues and soul – nobody will be able to stop themselves from singing along, I bet!

Pioneers: Frida
They changed the world with their visions, their perseverance and, above all, their art – and they definitely deserve an entire film series for it! The Admiral cinema will be dedicating the whole of June to female pioneers of art, such as Frida Kahlo. In “Frida”, star Salma Hayek dives into the role of the Mexican art luminary and takes the audience into the artist’s life – from her childhood to her tragic accident, which ultimately turned her into the artist the world admires to this day. None, low and ... lame? No. Rather fizzy, surprising and horizon-expanding! Lucas Matthies, who, until recently, was marketing manager at Wein & Co, has said bye-bye to alcohol and now sells non-alcoholic and alcohol-reduced drinks. Sparkling tea, fruit cuvée or fermented proxies – you can shop and sip these unusual alternatives in a typical wine-shop atmosphere on Kaiserstrasse. Together with his sommelier partner Friederike Duhme, Lucas offers a range of over 100 products. Spoiler: Cocktail alternatives and botanical elixirs designed to influence your mood are also on the shelves here!

Le petit Bazar
Once upon a time... there was a lovely French-style shop in Porzellangasse. It no longer exists, but owner Daniela has beamed her little bazaar onto Karmelitermarkt and turned it into a delightful bistro. With a beautiful tiled floor, Mediterranean blue shelves and lots of fine French delicacies. You can also eat here: a different quiche every day – and the crepes and galettes in particular are to die for. (Try the ones with sugar and butter!) As CitySpotterGirl is in France several times a year, this bistro is the perfect remedy for Paris homesickness. Oh and there's a small boutique with accessories and crockery in the side room.
