"Heya Girls!"
As a young woman, I never knew whether I should study literature or archaeology – I love both! But when I recently took a closer look at the work of Vienna City Archaeology, I realised that they do something very similar to CitySpotterGirl – they look for the extraordinary. And there is a lot of that in Vienna. Whether a new underground railway is being dug or so-called “Künetten” (narrow trenches) are opening up the streets for pipes and cables to be laid: Urban archaeology is always involved. Recently, for example, a lot of pottery has been found in Siebenbrunnengasse, including a “Godenschale”, a bowl used to give women fortifying food after giving birth. A little lion's head was found on Hernalser Hauptstrasse, and the remains of an Öden church were unearthed under the Stallburg. For all those who are curious and would like to take a glimpse into the past: There are regular guided tours of current excavations in the city centre. Free of charge!

Wishing you a vigilant week

The World in Colors
If you think about the beige-greige trend of recent years, you'll be really happy about this exhibition. The Lower Belvedere is currently focusing on Slovenian painting from around 1900 and one thing stands out above all: colour, colour, colour! Their decorative effect, symbolism and technical application were rarely as central as in Slovenian painting of this period. Was this perhaps due to the blossoming national emancipation of the time? The cultural and political connections between Vienna and Ljubljana are also the subject of Impressionist works. Dreamy!

Archive Sale at Kitsch Bitch
Loud, cool and absolutely brilliant! That's how we know and love the shop duo Sight Store and Kitsch Bitch. Why do we think it's even better now? Both stores (Neubaugasse 36 & 46) are running their very first Archive Sale! You can let off steam shopping without a guilty conscience, because trendy items such as face shirts by Astrid Deigner, knitwear and underwear, hats, beach towels and more are reduced by 50 to 80 percent. There are also some airy, typically colourful pieces that would fit perfectly into a refreshed spring wardrobe ;-)

 Friend of a Friend
Friend of a friend
The American visionary duo Friend of a friend inspires with two things in particular: their sometimes truly unusual sounds, which are created using a distorted flamenco guitar, and a midi controller, and their almost cinematic performances. Claire Molek and Jason Savsani finally found each other in 2020 after a lifetime of just missing each other, according to the artists themselves. Since then, the two have been creating musical symbioses of folk, post- and art-rock, influenced by acts such as Portishead, M83, The Kills & Jose Gonzalez. Live today at Kramladen!

 Neon Brush Experience
Neon Brush Sip & Paint
How about we spice up our weekendly visit to a bar a little today? In a retro-futuristic atmosphere, with a delicious drink in one hand and a paintbrush in the other, creative minds can unleash their inner artist at the Neon Brush workshop. In a room flooded with black light from floor to ceiling, you will be shown different painting techniques under the guidance of an artist. These are then applied to your own canvas using neon colours until, at the end, the room is lit up like colourful fireflies by the many different works of art. So beautiful!

Martin Spengler
New Wienerlied, “Schrammelsoul”, soulful singer-songwriting, boundless between blues, jazz, pop, waltz and bossa nova in the sound of Vienna: singer Martin Spengler will heat up the stage today with his “Foischn WienerInnen” – sometimes vulnerable, mostly grooving, celebrating life and love with a yay, sometimes comedic, swaggering, but never coarse and always imbued with linguistic brilliance. The group enchants with somnambulistic ease, true to their motto “Ois vü leichta!” – couldn't be more encouraging, especially right now!

Soso
Danced family history... sounds very abstract, but choreography star Samuel Feldhandler has managed to pull it off, dedicating his latest dance piece to his grandmother, Sonia “Soso” Feldhandler. Born in France to Jewish-Polish parents, Soso's father went to the front in 1939 and her mother was arrested in 1942. Soso was able to hide in a small Swiss town until she and her parents were reunited in 1946. What is particularly touching: Her grandchildren Samuel and Alma (costume) worked together to bring the dance portrait of Soso to life.

Time of my life
Party people, there are indeed no less than two good reasons to go to this event: Firstly, it will be taking place at Dam/Dam, which has recently opened its doors in the third district – and new clubs simply need to be checked out! Secondly, it's a wonderful place to reminisce about nostalgic party memories, as the motto every Saturday is “Time of my life”. For this, they offer party animals the greatest hits of the 80s, 90s and 2000s as ear candy. And when three decades are covered in song, you won’t really have any good excuse to stay off the dance floor ;-)

iRomance Pop-up
A little reminder to all the love birds out there: Next week is Valentine's Day! If you'd like to give your sweetheart a token of love but are somewhat lacking inspiration, you should take a trip to Kanopi. For three days, there will be a pop-up there with lots of cool stuff to snatch, like handmade jewellery, tooth gems, nail art, books, tarot cards and much more. Definitely something different from the usual box of chocolates or red roses. And the gift-givers are also rewarded, as there will be a free glass of vino for you while you are shopping – go, go, go!

Ornament and Expression
Around 120 years ago, Art Nouveau emerged – with Vienna as one of its centres. One of the major players was the company Joh. Backhausen & Söhne, founded in 1849 and known for its lavishly beautiful upholstery and decorative fabrics. If you would like to immerse yourself in the world of ornamentation, you can take part in a workshop at the Backhausen exhibition in the Leopold Museum today. There, you can experiment with artistic printing techniques and create everyday works of art in the style of the Wiener Werkstätte. After all, a cushion cover with a print of your own design makes quite a big impression...

Super Bowl Party
Admittedly, the rules are a bit complicated. But once you get the hang of it, there is hardly a more exciting sport than American football – especially on the final day of the NFL, the Super Bowl! This year, it will once again be celebrated at the Hotel Marriott. You can follow the excitement on several screens until the early hours of the morning and three All You Can Eat & Drink buffets will serve up American-style delicacies. Real fans will also find some original NFL merchandise. Alright then: Philadelphia Eagles against Kansas City Chiefs! And rapper Kendrick Lamar will be singing during the halftime show.

Pelvic floor exercises
Oops! A little droplet got away from me... Urinary incontinence is not uncommon, especially after heavy labour, in case of being overweight or lack of exercise, but the condition is still often associated with a lot of shame. So how can you combat this restrictive muscle weakness? The magic words are: pelvic floor exercises! Targeted tensing exercises in the pelvic and genital area strengthen the pelvic floor, improve bladder control and increase body awareness. Physiotherapist Jagoda Lessel will explain how exactly this all works in her lecture today!

Strauss Dinner Show
It's kitschy, shrill and a liiiittle over the top – ideal if you want to try something you never usually do! The Strauss Dinner Show is like an entertaining sensory overload: from a concert by the Johann Strauss Philharmonic Orchestra and soprano singers to a performance by the Vienna Royal Ballet in a circus-like Mirage setting. Plus: a typical Viennese 4-course menu, with a choice of Beef Tartare and Zwiebelrostbraten or vegetarian with spinach strudel and vegetable risotto. Dr. Bohl “Solo”
Everyone used to be it, many are. Many want it, few for long. Mickie sings about it and Han is called that. Solo. For the first time, Paul is also affected: after two ground-breaking programmes with his congenial brother, this time he has to go it alone. He uses this time to catch up on what he's had a lot of: dates. Based on five survived Tinder dates, he revisits mistakes, red flags and, above all, his own past. From an opera ball with DJ Ötzi to a Matura trip excess, all the stories that were told during these dates are now brought together on stage. Is this a good idea?

We're not cheery after the election
Who or what is still normal here? A hot meal for 1.40 euros. A gender ban. The Hitler salute. Attempts to analyse current developments only result in uncomprehending helplessness. Is the constitutional state destroying itself? How should we confront the present? Who is defending themselves against whom? Who has a monopoly on the truth and how can it still be verified? And what does all this have to do with Robinson Crusoe? This is what diverCITYLAB is trying to answer – it was supposed to be a comedy, but as the title says: “We're not cheery after the election."

True troubadours and masters of the art of connection: Victoria Vigenser and Lindsay Martin weave soulful vocals, effortless strings and driving rhythms into a unique musical voice. The two are currently on tour and are also treating themselves to a stop in our beautiful Vienna ;-) You should take advantage of it, because tonight they will be singing from their new album “Heart of Silver”!

Ototo
One thing up front: A visit to Ototo is bound to be a bit of a sensory overload – but it's great! Ototo in the 7th district is something of a super-cool Greißler that sells food & beverage and lifestyle products with the prettiest packaging. But the bouncers at the product range selection entrance are strict; peanut butter, sardines, oat milk or moisturisers are not allowed in just by looking fancy! The 300 or so European brands sold here are all produced sustainably and fairly. This also justifies the sometimes quite proud price. And if you're wondering what “Ototo” means: “little brother” in Japanese.

Koun Coffee
It's small but nice at Dominik Pausch's Koun Coffee. The coffee lover had already introduced it in the 22nd district and recently reopened it as a cosy stand-up café on Wiedner Hauptstraße. There, the home-roasted coffee creations are dispensed from a bright yellow machine and can be enjoyed at cosy bar tables or, when the weather is warmer again, in the garden. You can also give something special a try: Ube cream croissants. The filling is made from a purple-coloured type of yam and tastes sweetly-nutty – also delicious as a topping on an ube latte or matcha latte, by the way!
