"Heya Girls!"
What’s going on when magical fridges constantly deliver exotic delicacies, extinct plants are brought back to life by AI in a digital garden and graffiti walls turn out to be living archives? That's right! The Tricky Women are back in town. Europe's only film festival dedicated exclusively to animated films created by women is showing its 130 films this year in the Metro cinema again and online – and will have pixels, puppets and clay figures dancing across the screen. From 5 to 9 March, the focus will be on social, political, intimate and cultural worlds of experience that question existing notions of reality and show what could be possible. And on Saturday 8 March, Tricky Women invites you to a party at the Rote Bar in the Volkstheater – not only to toast the festival, but also to celebrate Women's Day together. Well then: colourful action on the screen!
Wishing you a jazzy week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Cirque du Soleil: Kurios
The most beautiful circus in the world is back in town! Their current show is all about reality – and especially about its relativity. At the centre of a hidden cosmos that exists in the past, full of crazy ideas and great dreams, is a researcher who believes in miracles. By way of fascinating acrobatics, the mechanical marionettes of this legendary cabinet of curiosities will be brought to life by some extraterrestrial characters and turn the laboratory upside down. In addition to all that, the stage design and the costumes will certainly make your eyes sparkle all night long!

Lessons in Love
Wow, spring fever is here! But because it's not so easy to find the right lovebird these days, coach Michael Marchetti and couples therapist Tiba Marchetti have come up with something really nice: “Lessons in Love”! Today, three speakers will be chatting about their relationship fails and slip-ups – a film director will talk about his double life in a previous relationship, an 83-year-old grande dame will recall the love of her life and topics such as adjustment and estrangement will also take to the stage. The audience can join in the discussion!

Feminist Struggles
The House of History currently offers everything to do with girl power in Austria's history. Starting with the introduction of women's suffrage just over 100 years ago, today's Women's Day tour takes a look at important achievements in women's struggle for political participation and equal rights. Which demands for equality were achieved and which still exist today? Curious visitors can find out on this entertaining tour. Five museum objects on the topic will be presented in 5 minutes each. This is how to do contemporary history in a nutshell!

Fashion Show by Julia Lara König
Even if this often goes hand in hand with a cliché about us ladies – we do love us some shopping ;-) Inspiration in terms of evening couture can be found today at the exclusive fashion show by Julia Lara König. |
I don't want to stick to these rules.
The MAK is more than just a museum! Today, for example, some of the pioneering women whose works are exhibited at the MAK are brought to life in a station theatre to mark Women's Day. Whether architect Margarethe Schütte-Lihotzky, women's rights activist Bertha Pappenheim or visual artist Friedl Dicker-Brandeis – they were all un-thanked creators whose art influenced women's lives for the better. Today, Johanna Mertinz, Susanne Hoehne and Irene Suchy are giving them a voice – to put their works in the bright spotlight they have always deserved.

Spring ahoy! The way the sun is shining down from the sky, it can't be long now until then. And that means: time to spruce up your wardrobe and home accordingly. So it's a good thing that for two days, the Edelstoff market offers everything we need for that: On 4,000 square metres, there's everything from snazzy fashion made from deadstock material from Fru, wetbags made from old swim wings and objects made from recycled Tiffany glass to a huge street food area with Brazilian stew, carrot-humus bowls and cake pops that will make your gourmet heart leap for joy.

Day of Vienna District Museums
CitySpotterGirl actually has a soft spot for the slightly dusty exhibition arrangements of Vienna's district museums ;-) Sometimes there are real treasures and lots of knowledge buried there! All district museums are open today and are showing interesting special exhibitions. It's all about the post-war period between 1945 and 1955, with each museum having a different focus. In Leopoldstadt, for example, there's an exhibition called “From ruins to a flourishing district”, in the centre it's about the reconstruction of the inner city, and in Neubau there's an exhibition about radio from 1945-55!

Temari for beginners
Temari was originally an embroidered play ball for children made from the scraps of old kimonos wrapped in silk thread. The colourful balls have been made in Japan for almost 1400 years and are a gift of joy and happiness. That's just a brief explanation of the beautiful meaning, because visually we're already in love anyway! If you fancy making your own temari (also great for Easter baskets, by the way), today's workshop is just the thing for you! There you will learn how to wrap your own ball with yarn and divide it into geometric sections, which are then embroidered.

Patterns of Modernity
It’s like wrapping your body in a work of art: The tit kimonos and haoris from the first half of the 20th century not only tell us a fair bit about the textile and art history of Japan, but they are above all real eye-catchers. From today, the MAK will be dedicating an entire exhibition to them, showing the colourful and often large-patterned pieces from the Taisho and Showa periods. They often imitate ornate kasuri or ikat fabrics and reflect Japan's exchange with European modernity with their patterns, some of which are reminiscent of Op art. So beautiful!

Mar Malade
The drummer reads from the local press and all Capricorns in the audience their horoscope, Alexander Hauer sings the classic travelling song “Hejo, spann den Wagen an” with the audience, because Michel M. Almeida looped the instrumental for the title track of their second album “Balloon” from it – this is roughly how a concert with the boys from Mar Malade and their multi-instrumental live band goes. Their at times energetic, sometimes skipping and then nostalgic melodies are like a holiday as music. Proof tonight at WUK and if you can't wait, listen in here!

Malarina
In her award-winning role as the right-wing leaning Austro-Serbian, Malarina is undoubtedly one of the funniest (and most vicious) observers of Austrian politics. But now she needs to come up with a plan. Because her fame has led to the tax office and social security authorities constantly demanding absurd amounts of money from her. But Malarina is a pseudo-feminist; she prefers to use the patriarchy to her advantage rather than smash it. So the trophy wife sets off in search of potential partners and dates her way through human history. Funny and sharp!

Painted Music
Most people probably know Arnold Schönberg as a composer, but the Austrian was also a talented painter. However, his dreamlike fantasies and grimacing caricatures did not only earn him praise. August Macke, for example, flew into a rage at the sight of them. Carl Moll even advised Schönberg not to show his paintings in public. Fortunately, this did not affect him much, and so we can admire his paintings, drawings and objects in the brand-new exhibition. In addition, digitally animated scores, film clips and audio recordings take us into a world that only seems to have disappeared.

Ebenbild
“Underwear is more than just a piece of fabric, it's a hug that accompanies you every day.” With this motto, Jennifer Windisch and Sophie Hutterer have been producing hand-sewn lingerie for all body shapes since 2020. It all started in a room in Hernals, today the girls have a cute boutique on Neustiftgasse. The best thing is that the Ebenbild studio is next door! Everything that is conjured up here from sustainable, fair materials and deadstock hangs freshly sewn on the clothes rails. And if your favourite item has a loose strap or a torn elastic – the lingerie fairies will make it look like new again. Beautiful & likable!

Kuchenamt
What a nice name! And yes, there's plenty of cake here (tip: vegan apple pie and Esterhazy cake), but most of all breakfast all day long, conveniently! Organic porridge, vegetable sticks with organic hummus, but also a classic breakfast with soft egg, pastries and ham. The newly opened, spacious café is furnished in a cool-modern style in shades of pink, orange and grey, with plants to be added soon. The Kuchenamt is part of wienwork, where people with and without disabilities work together, from restaurant apprentices to trained service staff. So it can maybe take a little longer sometimes. But who cares :-)
