Tipps der Stadtspionin

editorial

"Heya Girls!"
Bobs, water waves and pretty sequinned dresses – the 1920s were all about emancipation for women. And the men? They threw themselves into the thicket of the night wearing casual knickerbockers and slouch hats. In the period between the two world wars, “amusemang” was the order of the day. Until 26 January, the revue “Berlin Berlin – The Great Show of the Golden 20s” invites you to dive into this bubbling cosmos, with its debauched absinthe binges, wild music and smart show girls. Marlene Dietrich and the femme fatale Anita Berber clash violently, Josephine Baker's ecstatic scandalous dances whips men and women into a frenzy and the Comedian Harmonists take off as the world's first boy band. Life back then was like dancing on a volcano – which ended abruptly when the Nazis came to power in 1933.

Wishing you a vigilant week

 Kolarik
Luftburg Pop Up
All is new in the new year! This is the case at Kolarik Luftburg. For they know they didn't become the world's largest organic restaurant just like that, but with the help of many hard-working hands. That's why the employees receive a special thank-you in the form of a brand-new lounge and prayer room. We won't have to miss out on organic treats during the renovation, though, as Luftburg simply moves next door from today until 16 March. In the “Pop-up at the neighbour’s”, you can continue to enjoy classics from knuckle of pork to schnitzel and veggie dishes. As always, 100% organic!

 Viktoria&Viktor
Design Sale at Viktoria&Victor
Now in its fifth year, the classic label Viktoria&Viktor is a small authority when it comes to local and sustainable fashion. The high-quality basics made from Vieböck linen, Tencel or Lenzing Ecovero are produced directly on site in a suitable atelier. Now the label will be moving to a new home, which is still a secret (very mysterious!) and that’s why a big archive sale is currently taking place at the old address. There are countless prototypes, unique and individual pieces, models from previous collections, discontinued colours, fabrics and leftover materials to be bagged – off we go!

Viktoria&Viktor, Stumpergasse 11, 1060 Vienna. Until 18 January. Thu+Fri 10:30 to 19:00, Sat 11:00 to 17:00. Web

Into the snow by train and bus
If you swap your car for public transport, you face pretty challenging situations – for example, during the winter sports season. How to get up to the mountains, how to get to the good ski routes, how to carry your equipment? The “Bahn zum Berg” club has solutions: Tonight's event is dedicated to the topic “Winter sports with public transport” where members share their top routes for cross-country skiing, ski tours and skiing. And since so much snow-anticipation can make you feel cold, there will be a warming get-together afterwards with mulled wine, tea and snacks ;-)

 Linda Berger, Frenzi Rigling
Frenzi Rigling & Linda Berger
New year, new inspiration – the new L.art gallery had just that and has brought two artists on board: While Frenzi Rigling works in a reduced manner and often with a feminist background using fine chalk or thread strokes on textiles and paper, Linda Berger attempts to capture time in her XXL drawings with dense ink strokes. In doing so, she creates swarm movements in which one can lose oneself dreamily. The exhibition shows an exciting juxtaposition of the artists, for whom the stroke and the line are a strong form of expression. Today is the vernissage!

The Power of Shame
Today will be all about blushing and other embarrassments! Because who hasn't experienced this unpleasant emotion – but what does it actually do? Why are we ashamed in some situations and not in others? And why does it happen so often in connection with desire and sexuality? This will be explored with loving attention in the workshop “The Power of Shame”. It starts today with the funny performance “Little Night of Shame”, followed by tomorrow's workshop, where we will shamelessly much about our own beliefs, the body and sexuality! Please book in advance.

Titanic 2
Every successful blockbuster needs a second part to sink the first. For Markus&Markus, this means: Titanic 2 must go on stage! The sequel starts where the film left off: at the bottom of the sea. So it needs sand, lots of sand. The search for it leads the collective to a concrete factory, where they win tickets at poker to a place where sand is mined like there's no tomorrow. The consequences are tangible: The sand is irreversibly bound to concrete in 90 minutes – the only consolation can then be found in the unsinkability of the boat we are all in...

 Kosmos Theater
25 Years of Kosmos Theater
It was pure rage that led to the founding of the feminist Kosmos Theatre 25 years ago. Anger at the discrimination and sexualisation of women in the theatre, anger at underemployed playwrights and unemployed directors. Resistance that was as spirited as it was persistent generated the necessary political pressure. And it worked! Today, the theatre can shout Happy Birthday loudly and on this occasion, activists from then and now talk about art, resistance and change. Afterwards there’s the performance of “Aqua Tofana” and then: big party!

The Zew
The Zew plays songs straight from cosmic infinity. With guitar effects and vocals, Austrian musician Leonie Schlager creates a sound somewhere between folk and “outsider” music. Today she presents her new mini-album “Zazel Wants to Fly”: Be it a falcon flight or an abrupt leap into the unknown, linked by the theme of flying and falling, the songs tell stories about independence, the desire to lose control and the desire to confront oneself. Also cool: The Zews' stage looks. For example, she paints eyes on her face to symbolise the female gaze ;-)

Klassik2go Rave
“First Strauß, then House” is tonight's motto here! Where the tech beats are usually blaring out of the basses, five songbirds will meet today and, accompanied by a chamber orchestra, will perform a best-of opera arias on the stage of the Praterstraße club. And at the latest when DJ Steve Hope spins his club sounds immediately afterwards and opens up the dancefloor for the party you will realise that the transition to dancefloor beats is not quite as strange as you might imagine. Now that’s how easily high culture meets club culture. Are you curious yet? We are too!

Lilith Matthews
Tableware, vases, candleholders and even a washbasin can be found at Lilith Matthews. The ceramic artist has worked in a number of different positions during her career, including 10 years as workshop manager at feinedinge*. However, she originally wanted to specialise in interior design, which you can still see, for example, in a stylish ceramic stool that sits enthroned in a corner of her small shop. Not only does Lilith sell here, but she also makes all her treasures here – from A to Z: she mixes the materials, creates the designs and even mixes the colours herself. You really know what you're paying for!

DasHouse
Cafe by day, bar by night: the new DasHouse restaurant is something unusual – because cats live here too. (Upon request, the owners will help you adopt a street cat). Still, this is not a typical cat café, the extremely relaxed tigers live here as a matter of course without much fuss. With the motto “coffee, cocktails & cats”, you can have breakfast most of the day, savour waffles, cheesecake or tarte flambée and round off the evening with a wide selection of cocktails. The ambience: a quirky mix of industrial style, elegant chairs with Viennese wickerwork and funny cat decorations. Really nice!
