Fancy a short break? If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city or need a break from the craziness of the current times, I have the perfect tip for you: a little escape to the Waldviertel! Fresh air, fun, peace of mind, meeting nice people, clearing your head, experiencing new things, catching your breath, little adventures, relaxing – sounds good, doesn't it? You can get all that at “Ottilie”. This is the creative seminar centre that I founded in a 500-year-old house next to Ottenschlag Castle after a mega-renovation. And where the first spring/summer programme starts in March. You can hike with a designer to the romantic Himmelteich pond and then create beautiful things for your home using objects found in the forest. Or immerse yourself in the art of Ikebana. Or learn in a playful way how to turn your product into a (cult) brand. And of course there are also writing courses with your CitySpotterGirl ;-) Even something as unusual as “Writing and embroidery with Jane Austen”. I'd be happy to see you there!

Gustav Klimt – Pigment & Pixel.
What secrets are hidden beneath the surface of Gustav Klimt's famous works? How did he apply gold and other precious metals to the canvas? Based on eight of his paintings, the Lower Belvedere is now presenting the results of super-exciting, material-technical investigations. The focus is on Klimt's burnt “Faculty Paintings”, which only existed as black and white photographs and have been restored to their original colours with the help of Google Arts and AI. The impressive result can be admired on the ceiling of the Orangery!

In the musical “Bring me Edelweiss”, a moderately successful Viennese pop-cabaret-duo and a German girls duo join forces to form a new group following various professional setbacks: BÖF – Die bayrisch-österreichische Freundschaft (Bavarian-Austrian Friendship). Full of hope, they are working on their first album, inspired by a book with tips on how to get to the top of the charts quickly and safely. But their sly managers also have some say in it. So it remains to be seen whether they can pull off a hit miracle...

Wolf Haas: Wackelkontakt
Finally, another really amusing Haas novel all without private detective Simon Brenner! In “Wackelkontakt”, the Pinzgau native tells the story of funeral speaker Franz Escher, whose socket has gone belly-up. While he waits for the electrician, Escher reads a few pages. The book is about Elio Russo, a key witness in a big mafia trial. Elio is in prison, he has betrayed so many people that he has to fear for his life. Out of fear, he keeps himself awake in his cell at night, reading a book. It's about Franz Escher. Today is a reading and signing session with Haas himself!

The Fascination of Liverworts
Wow, what's that eagerly stretching its flowers towards the sky already? If it shines in the most beautiful shades of blue, it's probably a liverwort! Because this genus of only twelve species is one of the first to bloom in spring. If you would like to find out more about it, you can still admire the unique liverwort collection of the Munich Botanical Garden with 500 individual plants and 150 varieties in the Palm House in the Hofburggarten until today. Their natural habitat is recreated in a hepatica forest landscape. PS: You can also purchase some of these cute spring bloomers there!

Japanese Porcelain at the Imperial Court
They are like little windows into the Japanese world: the scenic pictures with blue underglaze painting, exquisite decorations and fascinating colours. The Japanese porcelain masterpieces of the early 18th century were financed by the great shopping appetite of the European aristocracy – including the Austrian imperial family. The Furniture Museum's exquisite exhibition of small objects currently presents Japanese porcelain showpieces from the Imperial Silver Collection of the Vienna Hofburg – some of the most exquisite heirlooms of Habsburg table culture. Oscar Night at the Cinema
Live on the red carpet from the comfort of your cinema seat: Night owls can once again follow the glitz and glamour of Oscar night in the cinema. To get you in the mood for the live action, a number of Oscar contenders will be screened at the Gartenbaukino, starting with “ The Brutalist” at noon, while “Sing Sing” and “Nickel Boys” will have their Austrian premieres. The legendary Red Carpet Show starts around 00:30, after which the awards ceremony will be broadcast live from L.A. Invisible Women
Sleuths will get their money's worth on this guided tour! On a tour through the City and Provincial Archives, you will learn how to find women in archival funds detective-style. For example, the fates of a former foundling, a cinema owner and a cookery school owner will be reconstructed using existing information. Also: interesting facts about women's rights from 1850 to 1950, the difficulty of finding women in historical registration records and why the fathers of children were not named in the foundling centre's birth records!

A pearl farm, a Chinese wholesale market for cheap goods, the production of ready meals or people sneezing steaks – in Mika Rottenberg's surreal visual worlds, things are sometimes turned upside down. The Argentinian-born artist's videos, installations and sculptures focus on the absurdities of excessive commodity production and its social and economic consequences with absurdly disarming humour. Rottenberg's eclectic oeuvre is currently on show at KunstHausWien, presenting an impressive selection of works from 2003 to the present!

The new exhibition at the Architekturzentrum examines the economic, political and social context of this ideal lifestyle through photographs, films and literature. There will also be a focus on Austria. The emphasis is on the enormous amount of space taken up by single-family homes, as well as successful examples of conversions, repurposing or redensification – which show how the space-stealing buildings could be utilised for the future. A Day Without Women
Now this is a prime example of how to get what you want as a woman! One autumn morning in 1975, 90% of Icelandic women stopped their work and left their homes because they refused to work, cook or look after the children. With that, they brought their country to a standstill – and catapulted Iceland to the “best place in the world to be a woman”! The documentary about the rather humorous revolution is released in 2025, just in time for the 50th anniversary of the strike, and lets the women tell the story of their actions themselves. Inspiring!

Actually, we ladies celebrate ourselves all the time anyway – but a little more still on International Women's Day ;-) In addition to the already colourful programme that our favourite city offers us during Women's Week, today we can use the gbstern bike workshop to polish our two-wheeled companions to a shine. In the 22nd district, two bike mechanics will be on hand this afternoon to carry out minor repairs. All women and people who identify as women are welcome to bring their bikes. With its bubblegum-pink walls, tiled shop counter and bright red vintage lockers as shelves, the small shop situated on Währingerstraße is a playful shopping paradise for true gyals (slang for girls). A visit is not only fun because of the warm-hearted founder Özlem Kuzu, but also because of her unusual treasures, such as vases in the shape of bows or donuts, burger & fries spice shakers, taco socks or empowering stickers. The cool accessories are framed by trendy fashion – mostly unique pieces that Özlem tracks down with loving care.

Kaffee Kunze
Gert Kunze actually runs Cafe Eiles, one of the oldest coffee houses in Vienna. But when an old pub just round the corner closed, Kunze went for it – and now Vienna has another small café with a hell of a lot of flair. There is a lot of vintage furniture in neo-baroque style here, as well as velvet and old pictures. And it's busy from early in the morning until late at night: Breakfast is served as well as a lunch menu, dinner and fine cocktails from late afternoon. It's reminiscent of the hip Berlin coffee-restaurant-bar places, with one big difference: The prices here are really moderate. You're not used to that in Vienna anymore...
