"Heya Girls!"
Starting this week, the summit meeting for dance enthusiasts will take place in Vienna: The "ImPulsTanz" festival will set the whole city in motion. Boris Charmatz, director of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch until summer 2025, will open this year's festival at the Burgtheater with a sophisticated reinterpretation of Bausch's classic "Café Müller". On Friday, Amala Dianor will perform "Level Up" in the main courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier with free admission. This is where big stage meets TikTok dance choreography and street dance. And for those who can't keep their feet still - there are over 200 dance classes from voguing to hip hop where you can shake your hips for free! Because in addition to the performances by dance stars, us normies can also get in on the action - the free "Public Moves" dance classes are bigger than ever before: Outdoor dance classes take place every day at a total of 7 locations. You can learn line dance and jazz dance, practise flamenco steps with beautiful new flamenco R'n'B music in the MuseumsQuartier or try out K-Pop and Bollywood. No previous experience is necessary, all ages and levels are welcome. Swing it, baby!
Wishing you a moving week,
Your CitySpotterGirl
ImpulsTanz + Public Moves, various locations in Vienna. Until 10 August. Web

Summer Sale at Kitsch Bitch Sight Store
Loud, cool and absolutely brilliant! That's how we know and love the Kitsch Bitch Sight Store. Why do we think it's even greater now? The Big Summer Sale is on in both stores (Neubaugasse 36 & 46)! That's why the motto for us all now is “shop now or cry later”, because if you don't take the chance to dress yourself in casual velvet blouses, sexy bikinis, colourful maxi skirts or airy wrap dresses at huge discounts, it's really your own fault. And with soft cardigans or long-sleeved kaftan dresses, they even got something for your autumn wardrobe already ;-)

Good news for art-loving curious people: Vienna finally has a queer cultural centre! With its exhibition space, however, Qwien is different from all other museums, as it rethinks history from a queer perspective. Qwien has been collecting, preserving and communicating the diversity of queer life in Austria for 15 years and is currently showing two exciting exhibitions in its new rooms: “Making history. A queer century in 27 incredible objects” and “Homo diaries. Self portraits & other stories” by lesbian artist Sabine Schwaighofer. Exciting!

Vienna Roller Derby
Roller derby urgently needs more fans! The action-packed, not exactly squeamish women's sport comes from the USA. It is played on roller skates, counter-clockwise and in circles. Points are scored by lapping the opposing team. Curious? The big “World Cup Hangover Games” with the 6-time Austrian champions “VRD Oysters” will be taking place today. The opposing team will be travelling from Mexico City and Santiago de Chile. Another really pressing reason to become a fan: the intermission performance by the incomparable (male) Fearleaders!

Intelligent from head to toe
If your head is constantly delivering, but your body has long been running on emergency mode, it's high time to change something! Women in leadership positions, in particular, often tend to simply “function” instead of feel. This workshop by Forrest Yoga teacher Alice Schwarz-Filz is designed to help counteract this: Through functional yoga, mindful movement, tips for stress management, and exercises for greater concentration and inner order, you learn to listen to your body and recognize boundaries before they are exceeded. Because strong leadership starts with yourself!

Rooftop Poetry Slam
It's June, and the Viennese poetry slam scene is gradually coming to a close for the summer. But the whole scene? No! The cultural association Fomp makes the most of the hot months and transforms the roof terrace of Jo&Joe Vienna at Westbahnhof (meaning at the top of IKEA) into a poetry stage. The monthly “Rooftop Poetry Slam” series starts today, for example, with eight poets competing in a verbal battle. With a time limit of five minutes per text, they juggle with words, the audience decides on the best performance and who takes home a small prize. Fun!

Niavarani: Midsummer Night's Dream
A guy turns into a donkey and sleeps with the fairy queen – Shakespeare's “A Midsummer Night's Dream” is the perfect setting for a grandiose and witty new interpretation by Niavarani: Enchanted by demons, you could fall in love today with the person sitting next to you and no longer want to go home with your husband. And while the poltergeist distributes love hormones and the elven king and queen fight over their adopted child, it becomes clear: When lovers promise each other eternal desire and then love someone else all the time – it was Puck!

In the Spirit of Friendship
Who would we be without our friends? They experience and live through so much with us, shaping our behaviour and our perspective. Friendship has existed since the beginning of time – and it is also recurring theme of artistic exploration. The Dom Museum Wien is currently showcasing how multifaceted interpersonal relationships are by means of presenting graphics, paintings, sculptures, photography, video and installation art from national and international loans. Insights into the Dom Museum's collections from the Middle Ages to the present are also offered!

Klimt + Immendorf Castle: Burned?
May 8, 1945 not only marks the end of the World War II, but also represents what is arguably the greatest loss of art in Austrian history: the fire at Immendorf Castle! The cause of the catastrophe in the supposedly safe art depot remains unknown to this day – unlike the works of art that were burned: In addition to works by Gustav Klimt, a considerable art collection from the MAK also fell victim to the flames. The current exhibition, featuring original plans, salvage lists, and film documentation, provides insight into the scale of the catastrophe. Today is the vernissage!

Vienna for Know-It-Alls
So, who feels called out here ;-) On today's tour through the first district, even long-established Vienna residents can put their knowledge level of their favourite city to the test. While strolling through the first district, smart-alecks can demonstrate to the tour guide how much they know about Vienna, its personalities and sights. Google is strictly forbidden, obviously! The guide will give useful tips, of course, and most importantly, offer extensive answers during the tour. And whoever knows more than even the guide will of course receive a prize at the end ;-)

A rhinoceros made of wire, basketry from Rwanda, magical wooden mermaids, paper lampshades, ornate beaded mirrors and embroidered belts – Claudia Pöchlauer and Walter Größbauer have returned from their trip through the Cape region and have brought back lots of treasures! You can currently admire the pieces they have brought with them to the Fortuna Gallery – and buy them too!

Federica Tabarretti
If you thought style ended when you switched off the night light, Federica Tabarretti will prove you wrong. The Italian moved to Vienna for love and discovered there: Her husband slept in Ikea bed linen! A no-go for the elegant Roman woman and the start of a long search for the perfect bedroom textiles. However, she couldn't find what she was looking for in Vienna, so she began to have her bed linen made in Italy - which led to the founding of her own brand for bedroom, bathroom and dining room textiles. Federica always chooses the fabrics, patterns and processing techniques herself, and she beds the resulting linen, cashmere and satin dreams in her boutique in Italian country house style!

Erste Wiener Tofu Manufaktur
He wanted to recreate the flavour of his childhood in China. And so Liwei Sun – who has lived in Vienna for decades – decided to produce the tofu of his childhood himself. He converted a stall at Karmelitermarkt into Vienna's first tofu factory – and fresh tofu is now produced there every morning (using a specially imported machine). The quality is great, the soya beans come from near Baden. You can buy the tofu in all sorts of variations, but you can also eat it on the spot. Tofu salad with sesame dressing and tofu curry taste delicious. The seating area is still a little provisional, but the white, silver and black colour scheme of the manufactory would make any 1980s art director cheer.
