Stock Sale at Zweigstelle Atelier
The building in which Zweigstelle has been welcoming flower and design lovers for years is being remodelled. No, not the studio and showroom! But above, below and all around there will soon be hammering, drilling and constructing like there's no tomorrow. That's why Andreas Bamesberger and his team are opening the biggest sale in Zweigstelle’s history with immediate effect: pots, vases, decorations – beautiful, surplus and for sale at prices that would make even the scaffolding shake! Small spoiler: You are pretty sure to leave with more than you had planned ;-)

Nicola L.
Wall lamps in the shape of eyes, a coffee table with the outline of a woman's body and a sofa that looks like a head in profile – Nicola L.'s objects are pretty freaky! The current retrospective at the Kunsthalle includes sculptures, paintings, collages and films by the celebrated French artist, who often explored themes such as cosmology, the environment or activism. Her “Penetrables” series is also part of the exhibition. The textile sculptures were intended as participatory works with openings into which people could insert limbs. Today is the vernissage!

Literally, of course, because the operators of the two trendy bars transform the path from Burggasse to St. Ulrichsplatz into a giant water slide measuring a whopping 75m. You can slide for free on Fridays and Saturdays! Party animals can also look forward to a big style competition, a flamingo bar, coffee from Meinl, ice cream from Veganista, tombola and DJ line-up. And when you’re done sliding, the after-party begins – let's dance!

H. Cartier-Bresson & Christine de Grancy
One evening, two vernissages: the stars are, on the one hand, the French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, who is considered a pioneer of street photography. His great talent was to release the shutter at the truly perfect moment and capture very special moments. His life's work is now illuminated with 240 exhibits. The black and white photographs from Christine de Grancy's series “Above the World and Time” are also on display. For years, she snapped pictures from the rooftops of Vienna and was virtually a guest in the world of the stone gods. Double wow!

Scythe Course in the Botanical Garden
Now this is a Saturday activity of a different kind: in the Botanical Garden, you can learn how to wield a scythe today ;-) But only with good intentions, of course! The meadows there are full of life, be it plants, insects or animals. Mowing with modern lawnmowers would be life-threatening for them, so they are still mowed the old-fashioned way with a scythe. And today, you can learn how to do this with scythewoman Ada Höchtl! What is a “good cut”? How do you hone and sharpen the scythe? And what are the benefits for your back? All will be answered!

The Villas of Pötzleinsdorf
Around 1850, the Vienna Woods attracted numerous Viennese to Pötzleinsdorf. Initially just for summer holidays, these illustrious guests soon sought permanent relaxation on the outskirts of the city. But the year 1938 proved fateful for many villa owners... With her unique flair for unique life stories, Marie-Theres Arnbom gives many residents back their stories. Today, you can accompany the author on a historical journey of discovery that leads to famous houses, but also delves deep into her own family history, which is closely connected to Pötzleinsdorf. Fascinating!

ReadUp. club
Reading is in! This is proven by formats such as BookTok on TikTok or trends like “bedazzling” books (covering them with rhinestones). The two sisters Nina and Maiken Greimel think: Reading is a hobby that people should talk about. That's why they have created the “ReadUp” event series, where bookies can spend time browsing through their own books and also chatting with other book enthusiasts for around three hours at different venues. This is a great way to get to know other literature lovers and books. Today at Lucullus!

Gingerbread Ice Cream
These sweet spice cakes are actually more of a Christmas treat – but the traditional manufacturer Metzger & Söhne shows that gingerbread can be a culinary delight even under the blazing sun! Those with a sweet tooth can currently enjoy gingerbread ice cream in Herrengasse, refined with the original spice blend from 1685, Austrian honey, and delicate gingerbread pieces. Flavors like vanilla honey, Sicilian pistachio, Belgian chocolate, or roasted hazelnuts go perfectly with this – and, of course, the scoops sit enthroned on a gingerbread cone!

Vienna Opera Summer

But this cultural vacuum is now set to be filled – and the keyword for that is: open-air opera! Starting today, Vienna's historic Heumarkt square will be transformed into an open-air opera arena with an impressive stage design, spectacular lighting and video effects, and opulent costumes. Twelve performances of Giuseppe Verdi's opera “La Traviata” will be performed. A must-see (& -hear)!

What adds to the thrill of TV crime dramas? That's right, the background music! Salzi
Well, someone has really good taste here. The interior in crimson, bright blue and lots of light-coloured plywood panels looks damn good. And the kitchen also brings taste. The green hummus bowl with roasted veggies, nuts and pomegranate seeds tastes amazing. The newly opened Salzi mainly serves vegetarian and vegan dishes, the breakfast menu is long and the coffee is of course very special. You can also buy it, as well as the plants that are all over the place. The bistro aims to be a meeting place for the neighbourhood – for breakfast, working or even listening to DJs. Prognosis: sooner or later, the whole of Vienna will be part of the hood.
