"Heya Girls!"
Unwinding, blowing dandelions, admiring the storks, slowing down, drinking a glass of wine at sunset by the local pond and giving your creativity a big boost of joy – that's a weekend at my new Waldviertel seminar centre “Ottilie” in a nutshell. And if you fancy such a fine break from everyday life, you are cordially invited! The upcoming courses all have something to do with writing. Whereby you – yes, it’s true – don't need to have any writing experience at all. At the end of May, book author and CitySpotterGirl’s daughter Lilly Maier invites you to “Schreibzeit”, a completely free writing course with individual coaching. Two weeks later, I will be delving into the world of imagination with participants at WellenWasserWaldBuntSchreiben, exploring the gorgeous Kamp valley and enjoying some joyful writing in a café. And at the beginning of July, we will immerse ourselves in the world of Jane Austen, embroidering, writing and picnicking – Bridgerton sends its regards. You can easily sign up: here!

Wishing you a joyful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Indian x Mexican Taco Fest
Sounds like an explosion of flavours just reading it: Today, Adi Raihmann from Karmafood and Mexican chef Manu Villalobos host an Indian x Mexican pop-up! It's a great match because Indian and Mexican cuisine have much more in common than you might think: Both are colourful, spicy, combine long traditions with street food culture and combine surprising flavours, including Ayurvedic ones. Today, for example, fresh Indian naans meet spicy Mexican fillings (also veggie options) and refreshing drinks. Replenishments are available until it’s all finished ;-)

Textile Transfers
A piece of women's history! Rosalia Rothansl was a textile and gobelin expert whose work was so strikingly beautiful that she was one of the first women in Central Europe to be awarded a professorship in 1920! At the same time, Mileva Stoisavljevic-Roller, a graphic designer and enamel artist who was active in the Secession circle early on, also made an impression. What were they both passionate about? Folk art! Their collections can now be admired in the wow rooms of the Heiligenkreuzerhof: from colourful bonnets, waistcoats and aprons from all parts of the monarchy to reform dresses by fashion designer Emilie Flöge.

Festwochen Opening on Rathausplatz
When there is acting and music all over the city centre, it's clear: the Festwochen are on! Today, the spectacle celebrates its opening festival between the magnificent façades of the Rathaus and the Burgtheater. And one thing is clear: Each performance in itself is like a well-stocked box of chocolates: pop meets brass band music, punk meets pop and opera meets folk music. With the motto “V is for loVe”, legendary stars such as New York performance icon Laurie Anderson and ESC winner Nicole will open the music hurly-burly today. And that's just the beginning!

And DJs provide the perfect dash of Saturday Night Fever. You can browse through the fancy pendants from Connected Charms, vivere ceramics will be bringing along crockery and ceramic accessories and Aleon Pearl's handmade pearl earrings. Schnitzel Party & Wine
Sometimes down-to-earth is simply the tastiest! Meinklang Hofladen thinks so too and will be throwing a Schnitzel Party today. But it wouldn't be Meinklang if it wasn't still a little different – that's why they are not serving just any schnitzel, but mildly flavoured Mangalitza pork! The breaded delicacy is served in a Semmel, accompanied by potato salad and such a big selection of Austrian wines that you'll get dizzy even before tasting any. Meinlklang Farm, Weingut Rebehof and Vinifero Naturweine will be serving the wines, among others. First come, first served!

Visitors can expect a colorful program including a young plant market, DIY bike service, culinary delights, a lively morning pint, herb walks, and live concerts. cha·rak·ter: Vintage & Secondhand
Why do we love vintage so much? It's really simple: Secondhand clothing is not only environmentally friendly, but often has a unique story as well and style that you don't usually have in new pieces. You can currently find some special treasures at cha·rak·ter Couture market, where founder Christina Schatzeder presents vintage clothing from girlfriends. The carefully selected pieces tell stories of past decades and are just waiting to be loved by new owners – from classic cuts to trendy patterns. Today is the last day of the pop-up!

It comes like a river
Well, this piques our curiosity: The artists Elena Kristofor and Laura Sperl have dedicated themselves to the element of fog in their work. And visitors can feel it. As you enter the exhibition space, you are immersed in thick wafts of fog, which symbolises both narrowness and expanse, as well as restriction and simultaneous possibility. Together with the photographs and video works on display, the aim is to blur the boundaries between pictorial space and physical space and challenge visitors to take a closer look. With so many opportunities for discovery, you won't be able to help it!

Bex feat. Ængl
One thing's for sure: Bex definitely doesn't sound like she grew up in the Pongau region of Salzburg. Because the rapper with Ghanaian roots can certainly hold her own with greats like Missy Eliott, Lil' Kim, or Nicki Minaj. Together with artist Ængl, she recorded the other singer’s debut EP and was promptly nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards in 2022. A year later, Bex released her own EP, “Bundles”, and won the XA Export Award. No wonder, because her uncompromising rap with astonishing gentleness is hard to forget.

Pippi Longstocking in Vienna
80 years ago, author Astrid Lindgren created Pippi Longstocking, a heroine who was too cheeky and unruly for her time, but has since been considered a superheroine for generations. A good reason to celebrate! Actress Inger Nilsson, who has slipped into the role of the rebellious redhead in many films, agrees – and will be honouring our favourite city with a visit. To celebrate Pippi's 80th birthday, there will be a talk with Nilsson in the main library, and for a concentrated dose of nostalgia, 30 minutes of the film “Pippi on the Run” from 1970 will be shown!

Baranka Park Memorial
Since the 18th century, the former Hellerwiese – today’s Belgradplatz with the Baranka Park – had been a campsite and resting spot for various Roma and Sinti families dealing in carpets, textiles, and horses. Until 1940, when the Nazi regime put a terrible end to it. In 2003, the area was renamed Baranka Park in honour of the natural healer Helene “Baranka” Huber (once tribal chief and great-grandmother of Harri Stojka). To commemorate this, music is played under the red chestnut tree today, with performances by Harri Stojka, Constanze & Tommy Hojsa, Nifty's and Mosa Sisic.

 Theatergruppe Mimosen
The future used to be better
The title is taken from one of the famous sayings of the brilliant, unconventional thinker Karl Valentin – more fitting today than ever, which is why the theater group Mimosen is reviving the legendary comedy duo Karl Valentin and Liesl Karlstadt. Not simply by copying them, however, but rather to filter out the comedy that stands out from the Bavarian cabaret success. Distributing the roles between two actresses allows for even more variety in the rapid change of transformations. Plus, it’s “all spots on Liesl”, because her talent as a co-writer was definitely underappreaciated during her lifetime!

Vienna – Women – 1900
Vienna in the spring of 1909 – two socially and artistically committed women meet in front of the Secession building: Rosa Mayreder and Auguste Fickert. They take a very special look at Vienna, namely from a woman's perspective. Instead of always celebrating Sisi, Freud, Schnitzler, Klimt, or Schiele, they bring those who have been overlooked for far too long into the spotlight: strong, intelligent, courageous women who have helped shape this city. They are no longer content with the role of the silent muse—they are daring to step out of the shadow of famous men by proclaiming: “The muse has had enough!”

Truly adorable! There's just no other way to describe Liesbeth Caestecker's cute boutique. It's not new, but children's fashion was the star here for a long time. That's changed now, and you find all sorts of original items for fully-growns too. The look: colourful, playful, and truly something different! Most of the items are fairly produced Nordic labels, but you also find chic cardigans, retro-patterned dresses and trousers, and accessories from Holland and England, from jewellery to socks to bags. Everything is lovingly selected and can be wonderfully combined – it's worth stopping by!

Yes, these porridges will win over even supporters of the “No baby food, I'm an adult already” faction. After all, they're served here with peanut butter and pickled plums, popped quinoa, or dark cocoa hazelnut cream. Der schöne Ernst is the new cafe-bar of the newly renovated Hotel Henriette. And Ernstl sure is handsome! Porridge is only on the menu until 11:00, though. After that, they have delicious Brötchen that are also a bit out of the ordinary—topped with blackpudding and orange marmalade or Tete de Moine. And plenty of Spritzer to drink.
