Miriam Luna
Spanish, passionate and fiery – that’s exactly what you need in this cold and gloomy time of year! Barcelona-born singer Miriam Luna will provide the necessary fuego for us today. She passionately spans an arc from Spanish traditionals and rare bossa novas to jazz classics, newly arranged pop, soul and some of her own songs, in which she tells some sensitive stories. The icing on the cake, however, is mainly her silky-smooth voice. No wonder she is accompanied by the most renowned jazz and world musicians. Tonight, Miriam will be singing live!

New Cinema Salon at Metro Kino
Big news for cineastes! To celebrate its 70th anniversary, the Metro Kinokulturhaus is giving itself a present and opening its brand-new cinema salon. It will be inaugurated today with the archive programme “A Journey to Old Vienna”. In the course of it, viewers will be taken back to the time of Vienna's fin de siècle and can indulge in filmic representations of our city from the last years of the Danube monarchy. The analogue 35 mm prints are shown on a contemporary film projector equipped with an original carbon arc light. Totally nostalgic!

Feine Kost mit Beilage
Now that's a funny idea: as one of the few dialect poets with stage appearances, Silvia Immervoll has made a passion out of mixing classics by Rilke, Schiller and others with her own poems full of Viennese humour. For dessert, the poet will seduce the audience with very personal, feminine Wienerlied songs and her unmistakable timbre in her voice. The result: “Immervollkost”, reflective, bold and with tongue-in-cheek humour. Hari Ganglberger creates the musical space for the linguistic images with drums, guitar and loops. Exceptionally nice!

Thunder and Lightning
Things will be getting romantic today: Johann Strauss' love for the young aristocrat Olga Smirnitskaya is virtually unknown. If it weren't for 100 love letters that couldn't be more intimate and an extraordinary waltz that traces the secret love story in great detail. Author Milena Michiko Flasar has answered the amorous lines and captured the tone of the time congenially. Jacqueline Kornmüller has conjured up a piece of musical theatre from this – with moving compositions by Johanna Doderer and waltzes by Johann Strauss. Today is the premiere!

Bananas of all things
The best cure for the Monday blues? Laughter! You can do just that today with the humorous musical programme featuring lyricist Fritz Löhner-Beda and his colleagues Alfred Grünwald and Ludwig Herzer. In addition to frivolous hits and heart-rending operettas, Löhner-Beda also wrote a wide variety of texts, which he had set to music by the most famous composers of his time, such as Franz Lehar and Emmerich Kalman. All that remains to be discovered now is where Hans really has his knee and what the Paris button collection is all about!

Klenk & Scheuba
Thanks to the convicted criminal Trump as president and a Mister Kickl as possible soon-to-be-chancellor, these two simply won’t run out of material: Investigative journalist Florian Klenk and investigative cabaret artist Florian Scheuba will give us a reality check on the political reality of our country today. With their really funny “corruption jazz”, in which one sets the theme and the other improvises, they compare old and new cases and discover that many of the people involved appear again and again, sometimes in different roles. Very funny!

Dota
Dota's music jumps and dances, leaps from the quarry pond jetty, swims and dives. It's a mix of folk and indietronica, which here and there reveals her love of Brazilian music. Today, the “hardest touring woman in German showbusiness” is presenting her new album with her band, on which she has transformed poems by the author Mascha Kaléko into songs for the second time. The astonishing thing: The songs don't sound a bit like poetry with musical accompaniment, but as if they were written in the here and now. But it's best to listen to them live today!

Holocaust Remembrance Day
80 years ago today, the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army. That is why 27 January is the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust. To celebrate this historic day and in memory of the 65,000 Austrian Jews murdered by the Nazis, a guided tour is being organised today. Starting at the Wall of Names in Ostarrichipark, the tour leads to the memorial in the historic courthouse, the room where 1,200 people sentenced by the Nazi judiciary were executed between 1938 and 1945.

Who is afraid of Donald Trump?
For many, it's still hard to digest: How could Donald Trump get re-elected? And how do those who didn't vote for him feel? Hannelore Veit covered Donald Trump's first term in office as head of the ORF office in Washington. During the 2024 primaries, she travelled around the USA and captured moods from the academic elite to rural communities. This resulted in the book “Wer hat Angst vor Donald Trump?” (Who's afraid of Donald Trump?), which she uses today to discuss the political situation in the United States in the present and future. Exciting!

Sebastian Frank cooks at Herzig
Vienna calling! Top chef Sebastian Frank from Lower Austria is leaving his 2-star restaurant Horvath in Berlin for a fortnight to feed us here in Austria! At Herzig, which is currently on winter break, he will be making gourmets' stomachs growl joyfully loud with his “emancipated veggie cuisine” and bringing unconventional sensations to our plates until 2 February. Meat and fish are not physically served in the 7-course menu, but are used in the form of lard or jus, for example, to enhance the flavours. Be sure to try Sebastian's signature dish “celery ripe and young”!

Aumaerk
Aumaerk is actually a meat manufactory, and a very special that: The meat is allowed to mature extra-long and is then tenderised (using a secret, patented method) so that it can be finished quickly and easily at home. In the concept store in Seilergasse, you can buy the high-priced gourmet meat, but also eat it here. In a colourful ambience on red velvet seats, a business lunch is offered where you can choose 3 courses and pay just over 20€. Vitello tonnato, pork cheeks on polenta and pancakes are all very tasty and downright cheap for the 1st district. In the evening, they focus on fine dining.
Aumaerk, Seilergasse 14, 1010 Vienna. Tue-Sat 11:30 to 23:00. Web
