"Heya Girls!"
50 acts over four days and nights, in the centre the Seebühne with 14 big concerts – the Popfest on Karlsplatz casts its shadow ahead! Stars and newcomers from Austria perform – with free admission! – at the Woodstock of the Austrian pop scene around the Karlskirche. Right at the opening of the Seebühne on 24 July, there will be a top-class meeting of the generations: Christina Stürmer, the country's first big female rock star, who emancipated herself from the paternalistic world of talent shows, meets Sodl, Lino Camilo and Mietze Conte. Alicia Edelweiss, Kässy (photo) and Oska can be heard until Sunday. In addition to the concerts, there will also be two guided tours: Music Nerd Geri Hollerer's tour extends from the Wien Museum to surrounding pop locations of historical interest near Karlsplatz. The second tour is led by media artist Oliver Hangl with live artist Ængl as a walking concert with wireless headphones through the night-time Popfest area. And: There will be a ping pong floor with park table tennis in front of the Kunsthallen Café every day!
Wishing you a great week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Brigitte Kowanz
“Light is what you see” – that was Brigitte Kowanz's answer to the question of what light is. Quite paradoxical, isn't it? After all, light makes everything visible, but normally remains invisible itself. In the new retrospective of the Austrian artist's work since the 1980s, the focus is on her exploration of the theme of light: in custom-created mirrored rooms, the light artworks are reflected are reflected an infinite number of times or made visible to begin with through the employment of black lights – an illuminating experience ;-) Today is the vernissage!

Film Festival frame[o]ut
When the MQ courtyard isn't filled with O-Töne, it simply transforms into a cool open-air cinema. Every Friday and Saturday, you can marvel at films that prefer to be out of the ordinary rather than run-of-the-mill. True to the motto “Disobedience”, the protagonists go their own way, spanning genres from coming-of-age comedies to gangster thrillers, rebelling against existing systems and authorities or fighting for a better future together. Today, the drama “Levante” will be flickering across the screens – in case of bad weather, head to Arena 21!

Domenig House
It's well-known, it's eye-catching, but above all, it's polarising: The Domenig House in Favoriten was once the Zentralsparkasse building and was designed by architect Günther Domenig. With its mix of high-tech, organic shapes, and striking metal façade, it shines as a cultural landmark on the one hand, and has also earned nicknames like “Favoriten's ugliest building.” It now houses a restaurant and a hotel – and today invites you to take a guided tour that reveals all about its history, furnishings, innovative construction, and elaborate restoration!

The Dandy Warhols
There will be flower power, punk vibes and tons of pop art as ear candy for you today with the Dandy Warhols! The band from Portland talentedly combines psych rock with shoegaze, power- and synth pop and more, adding the cheeky serenity of their pop art namesake and is equally adept at rapturous reverie and satirical pop. Their latest album “Rockmaker” in particular resounds with heavy, raw punk and metal guitar riffs. Definitely invites you to vibe with them – if only because the four-piece group is just really cool. It's best to check it out yourself tonight!

Come Back Again
What a legend! At the age of 82, the legendary ballerina and former ballet director Susanne Kirnbauer-Bundy is back on stage! Together with choreographer Doris Uhlich, she will demonstrate in “Come Back Again" that the challenges of old age can be overcome with wit and nonchalance, making them less scary. Whether in a shirt, trousers and sneakers or in a gigantic tutu, whether in mystical semi-darkness or in the bright glow of the spotlight – the charismatic dancer easily sends old and new clichés into the afterlife. Very inspiring!

Lady Blackbird
Once you've heard Lady Blackbird's raw, wow voice once, you won't forget her in a hurry anymore. With her rousing combo of soul and jazz, Marley Munroe – that’s her real name – has made millions of fans, who she is currently delighting with her new album “Slang Spirituals”. In it, she intones quiet folk pieces such as “Man On A Boat” just as sensitively and powerfully as the euphoric gospel empowerment on “Like A Woman” and thus gladly lives up to her stage name inspiration, as “Lady Blackbird” is derived from Nina Simone's song “Blackbird”!

Apart from new drink trends, there’s all sorts of roasted treats from the grill while you enjoy the summery hurly-burly at the Danube. DJ Adrian Tronic provides the perfect beats for the ultimate Dolce Vita feeling, and then it's all about feasting, celebrating and toasting until you forget about having to work again tomorrow ;-)

A Baroque Journey through Vienna
Baroque Vienna – it was more than just golden carriages and pompous wigs. It was an era of contrasts: between courtly splendor and everyday hardship, clerical power and worldly sensuality. Today, you can not only immerse yourself in this era historically and architecturally, but also taste it! Exotic spices, lots of sugar, meat, filled pies, and even sophisticated Lenten dishes reflected the wealth and trade routes of that time. None of that will be served today, but instead there’s almond confectionery and hot chocolate – history has rarely tasted so good ;-)
Meeting point: Dominikanerkirche, Postgasse, 1010 Vienna. July 23, 17:00 to 19:30. 45 €. Please register. Web

€uro Baby
Vienna has been literally flooded with vintage shops in recent years. So it can sometimes be difficult to spot the real gems – unless you end up at €uro Baby. The brand-new, super-sized shop in the 15th district is simply wow! Opened by Luiza, a former buyer for Burggasse24 and, if she’d had a say in it, born in vintage fashion ;-) Everything she finds beautiful hangs here – from retro pieces and accessories in bright orange Swatch display cases to traditional-costume-inspired eye-catchers like beaded moccasins. She renovated the interior with the help of friends, reviving a jungle wallpaper in the process. A must-go!

Restaurant Resselpark
Finished in time for Popfest! In place of the old pub in Resselpark (which was demolished), a new one was built over the last few months. The very grey outside façade isn't even finished yet, but the inside is pretty smart: lots of light wood, large windows and comfy upholstered chairs. The menu is not quite as modern as the interior, with a distinctly Viennese flavour similar to the previous venue – Eiernockerl, paprika chicken and goulash. If you have enough time (20-minute wait), you get dumplings like „Grammel”-dumplings, meat dumplings, spinach dumplings and tomato dumplings with mozzarella. And they’re good!
Restaurant Resselpark, Karlsplatz 14a, 1040 Vienna. Mon-Sat 9:00 to 23:00, Sun until 22:00. Web
