In love, engaged, married, divorced – a woman might go through many a phase in the course of her (love) life ;-) For all those who are currently on a cuddly course instead of cheerily hopping through life single, there is a famously important day in the calendar this week: Valentine's Day is on Friday. And Vienna is going to great lengths to make it extra nice for couples this week. The Upper Belvedere invites you to a kiss before The Kiss. In the evening, when the museum is closed, couples are photographed professionally and free of charge in front of Gustav Klimt's famous painting “The Kiss”. At the Leopold Museum, couples only pay half price on Valentine's Day, and at 16:30 there is also a free guided tour on the subject of “Lovers in Art”. And if you prefer something more unusual, board the magnificently decorated ship “MS Admiral Tegetthoff” for an idyllic evening cruise and enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner along Vienna's city skyline. Love is in the air!

Matthew Wong – Vincent van Gogh
Dreamy landscapes in which dots create a special three-dimensionality – the Chinese-Canadian artist Matthew Wong is regarded as a boarder crosser between Far Eastern and Western art. Although he was self-taught, chose to commit suicide at the age of 35 and created his collection of works in just the last eight years of his life, Wong became world-famous. His art was always inspired by his idols Shitao and van Gogh. The Albertina now brings him together with the latter and shows a juxtaposition of 60 paintings by Wong and van Gogh. Today is the vernissage!

Alba Carmona & Jesus Guerrero
Alba Carmona started her career as a flamenco dancer – a style of music to which the Malaga-born singer has remained true to this day. After making a name for herself as a singer in the girls' group Las Migas, she now prefers to perform as a duo with flamenco guitarist Jesus Guerrero. Together they develop their very own musical cosmos, which is just as wide-ranging as the popular flamenco accessory, as their repertoire of songs stretches from Spain to Cuba to Chile. Today, the two of them will be heating up the stage at Sargfabrik!

One Billion Rising
Worldwide, one in three women will be beaten or raped in their lifetime. To send a visible signal against abuse, the American feminist Eve Ensler declared Valentine's Day as V-Day in 2012. And launched the “One Billion Rising” campaign! Since then, millions of women from 200 countries have taken to the streets every year on 14 February to dance for a life free of violence. Vienna is also taking part – from 16:00 there will be dancing on the Platz der Menschenrechte today. Plus: interactive installations such as the “Red Shoes”, giant bubble art & more!

His talent ranges from photography to film to design and he has been largely responsible for the way we have perceived pop culture since the 1970s: Anton Corbijn. Using 200 works, including his iconic portraits of artists from music, film, literature and fashion, as well as numerous music videos, artist books and album covers, the new exhibition at the Bank Austria Kunstforum will shed some light on Corbijn's artistic cosmos. Becasue Wiener Linien has once again transformed an entire tram into a silent disco. While the tram makes its rounds around the Ring, two DJs play and party girls can choose between two channels with their wireless headphones. You can then dance the night away to house, electro, hip hop, 90s and more. It starts at 20:00 and you can get on or off at Karlsplatz every 40 minutes!

The theatre collective Nesterval suspects that Johann Strauss already knew that and dedicates its new play to Strauss' operetta “Fürstin Ninetta”: A couple want to get married at the Hotel Nesterval until it turns out that they are siblings. Princess Ninetta is also a guest and baffles everyone as a woman, then as a man. When she disappears, the mysterious Kassim is suspected of having committed a crime... The play is performed where Strauss's Blue Danube Waltz was first played, by the way: the Dianabad!

An unusual approach to art history: If you take a closer look, many more works of art turn out to be by women than previously thought. In their audio walk Invisible Collection, Sööt/Zeyringer uncover works by female artists that have been inadvertently or deliberately attributed to men throughout history. However, the works of art by Camille Claudel, Yoko Ono or Hilma af Klint won’t be on display in real life – so visitors are asked to impersonate a sculpture or hum along to a song. And for a full experience, everyone will get their own private tour!

Aaaand action! It's film time at the Stadtkino! The European Film Festival kicks off there today and that means a packed programme for all cineastes. For eight days, film treasures from 18 European countries will be shown on the big screen there, representing both a spectrum of artistic activities as well as a reflection of Europe's past, present and future. Today, the Czech Republic will kick things off with the film “ Girl America”, a delicious spectacle full of unbridled fantasy and hope. Followed by a Q&A session with director Viktor Taus!

Haderer Live
Now that's truly unusual! Caricaturist star Gerhard Haderer has created an entire show from his cartoons and brings them to life with accordion king Hans Peter Falkner. On the stage of the Rabenhof Theater, the two rock their way through the evening, one draws, the other sings and plays music. The caricatures are projected onto the wall and presented by the master himself. In between: Falkner's grandiose Gstanzl and songs full of linguistic artistry and squeezebox sound. A colourful show with art, music, brains and humour!

And here it is, Sissi Wu's latest coup! After her two go-to addresses Iko Kitchen & Bar and Little Koya, the gastronomic power-woman has opened her third restaurant in Vienna. This time with fusion cuisine, and so the menu includes miso salmon trout, sushi, sepia noodles with red prawns, pimientos de padron and cauliflower steaks. The Euro-Asian mix can be enjoyed for breakfast, as a light lunch or for dinner. The interior also fits in perfectly: Paravent-like partitions echo the Asian style, while the furniture is minimalist. Eye-catcher: the stunning golden XXL pendant lights!
