"Heya Girls!"
Some fans even postpone their departure for the Easter holidays for this: the much-loved Rarities Fair in the Botanical Gardens is coming up! And once again I'll be spending far too much money ;-) Among the many plant and garden markets in spring, the Rarities Exchange is and remains the best tip for lovers of greenery and balcony flowers. For three days, you can buy plants from 70 exhibitors at reasonably favourable prices: wild flowers, earth orchids, flower bulbs, peonies, scented geraniums, rare seeds and organically grown vegetable plants. As well as – and that’s where CitySpotterGirl will probably strike again! – a huge selection of clematis. Around 3,000 plant varieties are for sale, and there are even edible mushrooms to grow yourself. And it's just so nice to simply stroll through!
Wishing you a fragrant week,
Your CitySpotterGirl
Botanischer Garten, Mechelgasse 2, 1030 Vienna. 11-13 April 9:30 to 18:00. 6.50 €. Web
P.S. We are taking a week's Easter break and will be back on 24 April!

As always, all gender-neutral, of course. The Combinege label, tattoo artist Malucarone and fancy Y2K fashion will also join in!

Online Collection Volkskundemuseum
162,000 objects and 277,000 photos – just a part of the Volkskundemuseum’s collection. Obviously, not all of this can be exhibited, so there is something all new now: the Online Collection Plus. Apart from objects from the collection and archives, publications from the museum's own publishers and library holdings have also been digitised. You can now browse online until you drop! It’s all finely sorted and many items are categorised in albums, like historical Austro-Hungarian national costumes, old Gmunden faience or a myth library. Fascinating!

Pippa
Pippa is simply hip. The Viennese singer-songwriter has already released her fourth album “ Träume auf Zement”, which she is presenting live today. In it, Pippa light-footedly stomps on slaying norms and creates a path that leads to a realisation full of new questions: “Curiosity is a strange animal. It eats out of your hand and then throws up on you.” Everything is always interwoven with experimental electronics, instrumental parts and thoughtful but always hopeful lyrics – sometimes frightening, then fairytale-like. Sounds like great ear candy!

Experiment Expressionism
Strong colours, exaggerated forms and emotionally charged content currently adorn the walls of the Heidi Horten Collection. Emil Nolde, Max Pechstein and Erich Heckel and their German Expressionism are juxtaposed with Austrian contenders Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Max Oppenheimer & co there. And some silent film icons have also joined them with stills and excerpts. These include the most expensive poster in the world – designed for the legendary film “ Metropolis” by Fritz Lang. The one on display here is one of just four in the world!

Dance-Karaoke
Having fun at work definitely makes earning a living less of a chore ;-) The employees of the Vienna Staatsoper know this very well! In the months leading up to the opening of NEST, they danced to their favourite songs in front of choreographer Willi Dorner's camera – in the theatre, on the NEST construction site, in the Staatsoper offices... From this, dance clips were produced, which are now being projected onto a screen. And if you want, you can dance to them on stage in the spotlight! So, dance karaoke, basically. A live DJ plays 90s hits, Afghan pop, rap and funk. And there are drinks too ;-)

Yuri's Night
What Easter is to Christians, 12 April is to space enthusiasts: on this day in 1961, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to go into space and return safely. Since then, 12 April has not only been celebrated on board every Russian space station – the quirky custom has spread all over the world! Yuri's Night is also celebrated in Vienna, this time at the Natural History Museum: this year's focus is on the topic of “What does space bring us?”, with researchers and astronauts providing answers and sharing news from space. Spacy!

Meet the Makers – Sound & Dance
The nice boutiques and the artistic vibe in the Siebenstern district are really cool. But who is actually behind the great atmosphere? With the “Meet the Makers” event series, the neighbourhood presents its merchants – so today you can stroll through the many alleyways and enjoy mini live concerts. The shops are also offering special promotions and late-night shopping. At Eva Blut, for example, you can catch a backstage glimpse of the bag studio, Zerum is offering 10% off and Kalivia is offering free Tibetan sound therapy. Really nice!

You can think of this original place as a kind of library for works of art. And now for the really important part: until 1 June, over 150 works will be on sale, being up to 30 percent off! Perfect for welcoming spring with some colour popping!

Zeitenwalzer
Now that really is an unusual location for a theatre play! Instead of in an auditorium you’re sitting high in the air – in carriage 30 of the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel, to be precise – and instead of the year 2025, we find ourselves in 2049. A climate researcher talks about the Prater being green again and the dried-out Neusiedlersee. After a ride on the wheel, the audience gets off – and finds themselves back in 1873. The carriages float as time capsules through almost 400 years of the city's history, always accompanied by the music of Johann Strauss. A “Waltz through time” for the Strauss anniversary.

Skergeth Milk Bar
A milk bar. Inspired by Heidi and alps. In the centre of the city. That's exactly what's on offer for four days in Praterstraße. There, in the Freude Studio, bag designer Julia Skergeth is launching her brand-new spring/summer collection, which – how could it be otherwise – is called “Modern Heidi” and pays homage to Julia's childhood memories in the mountains. Until tomorrow, you can admire the new bags in designer alpine style while sipping a glass of vegan chocolate milk. Now that’s really different from the usual fizzy drink, isn't it?

Gallery Festival & Exhibition “Touches”
Every one of us probably has an idea of what a tender kiss feels like – the duo exhibition “Touches” by porcelain artist Beate Anna Hoy and painter Susanne Zemrosser will now demonstrate what it can look like. Beate Anna enchants with her delicate porcelain flowers, organically shaped bowls and floral wall decorations, while Susanne expresses the tenderness through her dreamy and also very flowery paintings. Today you can let yourself be touched by these fragile works while listening to an enchanting piano concert. So beautiful!

Old-Ottakring with the Night Watchman
It won't be completely dark yet, but he'll still have his lantern with him: the night watchman of Old-Ottakring. With traditional equipment, he will guide his audience through the old centre of the suburb on this tour. Those who join the walk immerse themselves in the past: The night watchman will tell stories, sagas and legends from historic Ottakring, stopping at forgotten buildings and former shops. An authentic walk in Viennese: terms from “ Hawara” to “Burnheidl” are explained. Even the Viennese probably won't know everything ;-)

Marcus Wadsak
The discussions about climate change will probably never end. Some are doing everything they can to stop it, for others it doesn't even exist. But what does Austria's best-known male weather fairy have to say? In his book, meteorologist Marcus Wadsak comprehensively dispels the most common myths and fake news about climate change and shows how to counter sceptical statements such as “It was warmer in the Middle Ages than it is today”. Scientifically sound and easy to understand. Today he presents his research live and reads from his book.

Bistrot Bertarelli
It's open again! The iconic Hotel Triest is back under new management, now part of the Radisson Group and as of the beginning of this week, (at least some of) its restaurants have reopened. Good news 1: The famous Silver Bar is back with plenty of cocktails. And 2: The bistro facing Rilkeplatz is now called Bistrot Bertarelli and already serves guests the best risotto alla Milanese in town on its second day. The homemade (really big) gnocchi with potato and truffle espuma are also delicious and suit the elegant surroundings perfectly. The focus is on Italian specialities, of course, but there are also Schnitzel and pork cheeks. Joy!
