"Heya Girls!"
Over the past 10 years, Vienna's facades have become increasingly colourful. Magnificent murals and huge graffiti adorn the walls of buildings from Ottakring to Margareten. Next to CitySpotterGirl's office, for instance, a several-metres-high Gustav Klimt and his cat smile down at us. We have the association Calle Libre to thank for this, which invites street artists from all over the world to give different neighbourhoods a new look every summer. Now the people behind Calle Libre are surprising us with a new initiative: they are bringing street art to the renowned Galerie Hartinger – and only art by women! The exhibition "Comm:unity - a female street art exhibition", which opens on Friday, features the dazzling works of six ladies from the street art scene, including Ms Isa (pictured) from Austria. Apart from their art, the ladies have one thing in common: they are fighting for equality in a male-dominated arena. And they do it with lots of colour.
Wishing you a colourful week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Red Lotus
From today, we can embark on a four-day journey to Asia as the Red Lotus Film Festival transforms the Stadtkino into a place of cultural encounter. With a selection of 14 feature films and documentaries from across Asia, the festival offers an insight into the diversity and beauty of the continent. The festival opens today with the Japanese film “All the long nights”, about two highly sensitive people in search of recognition. Also exciting: Saudi Arabia is joining in for the first time this year, following the lifting of its cinema ban, with “Night Courier”!

For some reason, spring doesn't quite want to show its face yet... But maybe soon, if you throw a little party in its honour ;-) In any case, there's one happening today in the lovely My Magpie shop! Part of the party collective are Sylvie T. with her fashionable festive collection, the art chocolates from nebula Chocolate and of course the fantastic 3D jewellery pieces from My Magpie. The polyamide jewellery is often inspired by Viennese architecture and is all on sale today at 10 percent off! You can then toast your deal with a glass of sparkling wine.

Chanda Rule & Michylee
With roots in gospel, soul in her heart and a hint of jazz in her voice, vocalist Chanda Rule is known for her expressive, moving and captivating songs. In her quiet melodies she weaves the story of her ancestors around captivity and liberation, but her home in Chicago's gospel scene is also very much in evidence. Incidentally, Chanda has been living in Vienna for several years and is often referred to as the “ Queen of Contemporary Gospel”. Today, as a duo with jazz/fusion guitarist Mickylee, she will make her vocal cords vibrate!

Echoes of Erebos
Attention, rock fans! Today, MetaStadt will once again become a playground for stoner-doom-psych and everything in between, as the Echoes of Erebos Festival is in town. Seven artists from Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway will heat up the stage and, although rather rare for the genre, there will be a female line-up: the all-female band 24/7 Diva Heaven from Berlin. The three musicians serve up a cocktail of punk, grunge, hard riffs and in-your-face lyrics. Female power, quite literally, rocks here! If you're curious, you can listen in here.

Curvect Second Hand Market
It's not exactly easy to find clothes over size 46 in the shops. If you want it to be trendy and unusual, it gets even more difficult. This could change today: The Curvect Plus Size flea market offers second-hand and new items for all fashionistas with large sizes. Ladies, boutique owners and influencers from size 46 upwards have rummaged through their wardrobes and are selling fashion items, shoes and accessories on site. The aim of the Curvect Market is also to connect the plus size community and promote dialogue. We think that's good!

Today, there’s a hive of activity again at Zukunftshof! Where the Haschahof used to be, urban nutrition, sustainability and circular economy have been rethought for a while now. Today, the gates of the historic estate in Favoriten open for the weekend. A colourful programme awaits visitors with a young plant market, a DIY bike service, culinary delights, herb walks and live concerts. This is just a taste of the summer programme to come, with open-air cinemas, farm cafés and panel discussions on the “Edible City of Rothneusiedl”. Great!

Just when, after a long winter, we are longing for the green of spring and the scent of flowers. Just when the most delicate flowers of the year await us: tulips, ranunculus and daffodils. This is exactly the moment when flower fairy Yvonne Poul organises her FlowerFlow! Seasonal, regional and non-toxic slow flowers are transformed into beautiful wreaths here. While enjoying an aperitif from the garden, participants can choose their favourites from the flower buffet and make a 20-25 cm wreath that can be dried at home to bring joy every year.

Gürtel Flea Market
Nice spring bargain hunt including catering! Not that the Gürtelbräu isn’t already great on its own, but when it’s turned into a flea market, it's twice as great, of course! Private exhibitors have once again been busy clearing out and bringing lots of second-hand and vintage treasures with them. The feel-good shopping sound comes from laid-back DJs and because nobody wants to spend money on a growling stomach, drinks and vegan snacks are also provided. PS: If the weather plays along, this time the shopping area will even extend into the LOOP's outdoor dining area!

Eva Beresein: Thick Air
It is an encounter between beauty and horror, tragedy and humour and reality and fantasy. The works of the Vienna-based Hungarian artist Eva Beresin open up an artistic universe full of mischief and shenanigans, where oversized feet snuggle up to lots of nudity and animalistic people. The colourful, lively portraits recall Mannerist escapades, often with medieval-looking cruelties that are immediately defused by the bright colours and grotesque accessories. Confusing yet interesting at the same time, today is the vernissage!

Waiting for the Barbarians
Now that's an unusual location! Before the Volkskunde Museum begins its general renovation in autumn, it is opening a special venue in the building: the air-raid shelter in Schönbornpark. For two weeks, the 44 bunks will be used by the theatre group toxic dreams as a labyrinth of sounds, texts and images with live action. Visitors will undergo a kind of training programme for when the barbarians arrive. And to help them digest it all, they will all meet up at the “Heurigen der letzten Tage” after the programme has been successfully completed! Pay as you wish.

It's a match! Yoga and fasting are a health dream-team. The two methods complement and support the cleansing and balancing effect on body, mind and soul. But how do you actually fast properly? During her one-week seminar, Ines Faber from Yogazentrum Mauer accompanies participants through the fasting programme on an outpatient basis and at regular meetings. They learn how to prepare fasting soups and juices, for instance, as well as coordinated yoga sessions, and they also hike together and exchange ideas every day. It starts today!

Mo's Concept
A modern miniature oriental palace – that's how you could describe Mo's Concept in the 18th district. Here, sisters Mojgan and Marjan Sanani, who grew up between Tehran and Vienna, have opened a counterpart to their boutique in the first district. When you enter the inviting round-arched gallery, it is hard to decide where to stop first: the house-designed velvet tote bags in gemstone hues? The matching slippers? Or maybe the delicate jewellery? Oh yes, there's also the kitchen area, and at that point you'll be dreaming of a Persian holiday eldorado at the sight of the maritime bowls, glasses and the like. So beautiful!

Mamas Bar
Have you ever tried a parmesan-flavoured Dirty Martini? You can sip your way through this and other fabulously unusual cocktails at Mamas Bar. The small bar is a great insider tip and, despite its exquisite location in the first district, it’s actually cosy and down to earth. The highlights are definitely bar manager Roko's cocktail creations. He mixes haute cuisine in a glass, so to speak, from salty, smoky variations to fresh explosions with cucumber-caviar and espresso martinis with white truffle oil. Thanks to the many regulars, the atmosphere is very informal and fun, especially late at night. Highly recommended!
