editorial

"Heya Girls!"
I admit, I haven't quite managed to make the transition from midsummer to damp, cold autumn yet. I'm trying hard to suppress a burgeoning case of autumn depression. On Saturday, I might succeed. Firstly: The weather forecast says we’ll have sunshine. And secondly: three unusual flea markets. Original, fun, and easy on your wallet! The flea market with the most beautiful view over Vienna takes place on the Ikea rooftop terrace at Westbahnhof. You can buy discounted items from Ikea and all kinds of second-hand goods, including fashion from various vendors. There's also DJ music, pizza, drinks, and a raffle. Fashion fans with larger sizes will find what they're looking for at the Curvect Second Hand Market. Pre-loved, new, boutique fashion, and designer pieces in sizes 46 to 62 hang on the clothes rails. There's no room for body shaming here. And if you only have time in the evening, head to the Nightmarket in the 3rd district. There's live music and not only fashion, vintage items, and accessories to buy, but also young art.

Wishing you a surprising week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Ten designers have now come together and organised a fine pop-up event to showcase the highlights of their current collections to women for three days at the start of autumn. Among the treasures being offered are the minimalist designs by Amateur, the creative jewellery pieces by kabllo, the cool shirt-and-pants combos by Langer Modedesign, and the handbags by Loosebag that are practical yet stylish at the same time. As always, special attention is paid to high-quality materials – we've already got our shopping bags ready!

 Augarten
Figurine Workshop at Augarten
It's not every day that you get the chance to potter about in one of the world's most famous porcelain factories! At the figurine workshop, crafting queens can mould their own porcelain figurines at the Augarten manufactory! The two-day workshop begins with choosing your favorite figurine and a short introduction to the production process. Then it's time to get down to business, and once everything is in shape, it's time to fire it. Of course, you can take your work home with you (and show off to your next visitor ;-) PS: Lunch together is also on the agenda!

 Langer Tag der Flucht
Long Day of Refugees
In light of the ongoing conflicts, the issue of displacement has once again painfully entered the general consciousness in Europe. On today's Long Day of Refugees, you can learn more about it at 40 free events. Caritas Vienna is organizing a pop-up choir, Spektakel is hosting a comedy evening with five performers from Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, and Ukraine, and the Main Library is holding a trilingual reading from the anthology “Der lange Winter der Migration” (The Long Winter of Migration). Also special: a bicycling course for refugee women and the Ukrainian choir Barbareum!

Careful, CitySpotterGirl is about to drop a few calories into your email inbox ;-) Namely: Lillet Rosé, pumpkin-hemp, matcha-black sesame, or beetroot-dark chocolate cheesecake. Plus, food blogger Eva Kamper-Grachegg will participate with a delicious hazelnut version. Doesn't that sound tempting? The Marriott Hotel is inviting you to its Garden Cafe today to sample a wide selection of different cheesecakes (first come, first served!). The tasting is free, and the cake that receives the best rating from the hobby gourmets will then be added to the menu.

Museum of Change
How wonderful! Under the name “Museum of Change”, the courtyard facade of the old main post office will now be transformed into an open-air museum with an AI screen displayed every evening. The images are generated using artificial intelligence, but the artist Sha is the creator of the production. The goal of the project is to create a liaison between historical architecture and innovative media art, where light, sound, image, space, and the interaction between human and artificial intelligence merge into a futuristic work of art. It always starts at sunset!

Women in Viennese History
This is a man's world... Sounds quite outdated now, but unfortunately it was true for a long time. For ages, history was written only by men and told from their perspective. As a result, women's contributions were often excluded. And yet women actually ran their own businesses during the Middle Ages, ruled entire empires in the Baroque period and fought for workers' rights during the Industrial Revolution. Today, a guided tour of the permanent exhibition at the Wien Museum enables you to retrace their steps and discover some long-hidden stories!

The Pacemakers
They got a sense of humour – and energy! The Pacemakers are between 60 and 86 years old, have millions of fans online, and are probably the most famous senior dance team in the world. With their motto, “You're never too old to move!” they successfully break stereotypes and celebrate aging. The exciting thing is that eight original members are currently in Vienna giving dance classes! At the “Day Disco Workshop,” you learn a choreography with the seniors, and it becomes pretty obvious that they won't need a pacemaker for a long time ;-) Two days in Vienna, today in Maria Enzersdorf!

Bicycle & Lobster
No sooner have the first gingerbread biscuits appeared in supermarkets than the MAK unveils its Christmas decorations! The Kunstblättersaal is currently adorned with over 800 delicate works of art from Bohemia. These festive and charming lobsters, aeroplanes and stars date from the heyday of Gablonz Christmas tree decorations, which spanned the period from the 1920s to the 1980s. They were most elaborately crafted using glass rods, hollow glass structures or twisted glass beads and transform the exhibition space into a glittering cosmos – truly enchanting!

Anna Mabo: Ferdinand Raimund
Her name is Anna Mabo, his name is Ferdinand Raimund. She writes poetry, he writes poetry. She is from Vienna, he is from Vienna. He writes about fairies, she writes about him. He works at the Theater in der Josefstadt, she works at the Rabenhof. So it all fits perfectly – if it weren't for their 206-year age difference. But anyone who knows Ferdinand and Anna knows that a little bit of reality has never been able to ruin a good story for them. Musician and theatre shooting star Anna Mabo takes us on a journey through time across the entire Raimund cosmos with wit, fate and a great love story!

Candle Painting at &friends
The &friends shop in the 4th district is like a little Mediterranean island in the heart of Vienna. Amongst the dried flowers, stationery, scented candles, slow fashion items and decorative items, founder Yasmin also holds workshops on the store's upper floor. Now that the summery after-work events are finished anyway, we need new ways to spend our evenings. Today, for example, it could be candle painting! For this, you paint pretty candles with wax colours. There will be bubbly drinks, and by the end of the evening, you will have both new decorations and a little buzz. ;-)

 Michaelina Wautier
Michaelina Wautier
Forgotten, suppressed, celebrated: Flemish Baroque painter Michaelina Wautier is truly an unusual case in art history! For centuries, her work was misunderstood or attributed to male colleagues. At a time when female artists were preoccupied with still lifes and genre painting, if anything, Wautier succeeded with historical painting and provocative motifs, and did not even shy away from depicting naked male bodies. All the more astonishing given that women had no access to nude painting at the time. These revolutionary works can now be admired at the KHM for the first time!

Thalia Zedek
She is a queen of emotions: In her haunting stories of loss and hope, strife and triumph, she conveys her very personal emotional world. Thalia Zedek has been active since the early 1980s and is a member of several notable alternative rock bands. Her lyrics and music are invigorating and touch the listener from the very first time. Oha Fusion Cuisine
With elegantly laid tables and friendly, attentive service, Oha is unlike the (now almost countless) number of Asian restaurants in our city. The aim here is to move more towards fine dining. The fact that the menu is served on an iPad still takes some getting used to, but it's practical as the dishes change frequently. Maki, nigiri and sashimi are of course always on the menu, and the fusion cuisine is evident in the main courses. The restaurant draws on all Asian cuisines. Tomato beef ramen is served alongside curry chicken, unagi don with eel and crispy gyoza. It's not a quick meal here – but everything is freshly cooked.
