"Heya Girls!"
Now summer is showing its true colours! Hot, humid, sweaty – and all I really want to do is find some water. Fortunately, there's the perfect guide for bathing beauties like me, and I've conveniently written it myself: “Baden im Land um Wien!” For people who love the smell of sun-warmed wood on a jetty and the sparkle of a lake. And you don't even have to travel far to find it. Just outside Vienna, the Danube wetlands give you that jungle feeling without having to fly miles and miles, and in the Wachau you can find sandy beaches like in Bali. The countryside around Vienna is incredibly rich in beautiful swimming spots. That's why I swam my way through Lower Austria and Burgenland and found more than 50 destinations for the perfect swimming day for you – in historic river baths on the Kamp and Ybbs, in thermal springs, in turn-of-the-century baths with vintage vibes, in lakes and in modern water parks. You can take a peek into the book here. And then off into the water!
Wishing you a sparkling week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Alexander Stewart
Reaching more than half a billion streams of your songs is quite an achievement. This is something that rising pop star Alexander Stewart can boast. The Canadian is currently shining with his EP “if you only knew” and the song “i wish you cheated”, which went viral on TikTok and with which he also made his late-night TV debut on the Jimmy Fallon show. We figure these are quite a few good reasons to go and see the songbird live. How convenient then that he will be performing at the WUK today! And if you would like to check him out beforehand – this way ;-)

Spiral Bike
Today it's time to get on your boneshaker! Because when the street becomes a stage, the bike becomes a soundbike and the collective ride becomes a concert, one thing is clear: Spiral Bike is happening! Inspired by the well-known soundrides, this extraordinary event combines art, cycling and concerts in a unique way – on different routes, Vienna's bridges and bicycle spirals become stages for concerts and performances in the midst of urban architecture. Particularly cool: the specially developed mobile multi-channel sound system, which has been specially adapted to the design of the cargo bikes!

Clearly, it’s summer – the travelling open-air cinema is starting its tour of the city again. The VOLXkino makes cinema happen in places where it is not usually found: in parks, between municipal buildings, on public squares or markets and, as of today, on Karlsplatz under the name “KARLSkino”. For nine days over a period of three weeks, cinematic delicacies and rarities will be shown in the open air, all free of charge. Today we’ll be starting with “No Bears” – a romance about two lovers who try to escape from the Islamic Republic of Tehran to France with forged passports.

Nawa
“Nawa” is a word composition from North Africa and West Asia, meaning song or melody in Arabic, and is the name of the new Viennese music festival dedicated to contemporary music and film from these regions. Beyond folklore and ethnic boundaries, initiator Mahan Mirarab wants to use music to connect people from different cultures. Look forward to electro-sound rebels Parasang and Kiran Ahluwalia's virtuoso blend of Indian sounds with West African blues and American jazz. Today is the final day, with a fiery performance by the Nawa Orchestra itself!

City Walk African Vienna
You wouldn't really associate Vienna with Africa. Which makes it all the more surprising how much of the continent can be found in Austria's past and present. On a guided walk through the city today, you can follow the traces that Africa has left and continues to leave in Austria. The places of remembrance – street names, altarpieces, museums and monuments – tell stories of racism, slavery and exoticism. Immersing oneself in a foreign culture should open the horizon for Austrian-African behaviour free of discrimination and prejudice. We think that's great!

Vienna Opera Summer
Just when thousands of tourists are flocking to the Austrian capital for the summer holidays, the city's stages are quiet since almost all theatres and opera houses are on their summer break. But this cultural vacuum is about to be filled – and the key word is: open-air opera! From today, the garden and majestic backdrop of Belvedere Palace will be transformed into an open-air opera, with an impressive set, spectacular lighting and video effects and opulent costumes. Ten performances of Mozart's opera Don Giovanni will be staged. A must see (& hear)!

Avant-Garde and Liberation
At the start of the summer season, the mumok will reopens its doors after the renovation phase and invites you to a sensational group exhibition. On display are works by 24 international artists, who addresse the sensitive issues of racism and oppression by means of contemporary art. Many of them come from former colonies themselves, and their work draws on 20th-century movements for equality such as the Harlem Renaissance or the Black Power movement of the 1960s, for example. Incredibly diverse and really fascinating!
