"Heya Girls!"
In the past, this was not a hobby for the emperors but sheer competition: who has the most beautiful orangery among the crowned heads of Europe? Obviously, the Habsburgs wanted to hold the upper hand in this. At Schönbrunn, a 190-metre-long house was built for the emperor's “golden apples”, and the heating system laid in the floor still dates from the times of Maria Theresa. The result of the royal rivalries is quite unique: Vienna still houses a fantastic collection of historical citrus plants – from Buddha's Hand (photo) to Citrus Medica. And this weekend, the rarities will be on display! At the Citrus Days, the exotics are exhibited in the 280-year-old Orangery – you can also buy citrus plants for your room and garden, buy garden accessories and books and take part in guided tours. And for special questions, the specialists of the Bundesgärten are available every day. An insider tip for all plant lovers interested in exotic flair!

Wishing you a refreshing week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

 Sam Smith
Sam Smith: Gloria
Whether in an extremely voluminous, bright pink ruffled robe, in a silver sequined overall or with a chain-draped corsage – Sam is a sight to behold. But not only does the self-confessed non-binary Smith have it down, outfit-wise, you also don’t mind listening to his voice twice. No wonder, then, that he even sang the theme song to the James Bond film “Spectre”. Today, the extravagant Brit brings his new album “Gloria” to the Stadthalle and one thing can be said in advance: If you want to keep up with the dress code, you should definitely put on an extra layer of glitter!

Annemarie Arzberger
There are these works of art that simply mesmerize you. You stand in front of them, sink into them mentally and lose yourself in dream worlds. Annemarie Arzberger's collages create something like this feeling. The works of the sensitive artist from Graz carry mythology as well as fabulous places of longing, which are brought to life with watercolour painting, masks, costumes, figures or performance. And so a liaison of surrealism and natural landscapes in soft pastel colours floats across the artist's canvas, hardly letting go of your gaze. Dreamy!

Das Boot
Ahoy! In their parody of the classic film “Das Boot”, Sarah Frick and Martin Vischer show what happens to men when they are under pressure and too much closeness, exaggerated masculinity, power play and bodily fluids makes them snap. Reporter Mr Bert tries to understand: Will Smutje Kai Jüte ever shut up? What will happen to sailor Mark Trose when the pressure mounts? At least Klaus Trofobyev, the man with the hard shell and the hard core, doesn't let himself get rattled so quickly. Or does he? And what is that smell? A delightful fooling around!

 Barankapark
Baranka Park Memorial
Since the 18th century, the former Hellerwiese in Favoriten – today’s Belgradplatz with the Baranka Park – had been a campsite and resting spot for different Roma and Sinti families dealing in carpets, textiles, and horses. Until 1940, when the Nazi regime put a terrible end to it. In 2003, the area was finally renamed Baranka Park after the respected natural healer Helene “Baranka” Huber (once tribal chief and great-grandmother of Harri Stojka). To commemorate this, there will be music under the red chestnut tree today from 17:00 – with Harri Stojka, Tini Kainrath and Mosa Sisic & Band.

Madame d'Ora
As a woman, she was only able to study photography with special permission, but today she is considered the first fashion photographer of our time. In fin de siècle Vienna and interwar Paris, Madame d'Ora photographed some of the greatest artists of the 20th century – from Gustav Klimt to Coco Chanel and Picasso, they all posed before her lens. Yet today, hardly anyone knows who the photography sensation was. In the seventh series of “Namesakes of the Seestadt” she will be introduced today by Eva Geber, author of “Madame d'Ora – Diaries from Exile”. There's brunch, too!

Christian Reiter and Florian Klenk
Why do hospital patients end up alive on the dissecting table? What did Beethoven really die of? How poisonous are preserved fruits and how do you solve politically sensitive cases and police scandals? Some of the most spectacular criminal cases of the past 40 years have ended up on the dissecting table of forensic pathologist Christian Reiter. Today the renowned scientist talks to Falter editor-in-chief Florian Klenk about poisonous flowers, the water corpse Ötzi and flesh flies as exculpatory witnesses. A Viennese-morbid matinee with musical accompaniment by Ernst Molden!

 Sarah Vanhee
Mémé
The Festwochen are currently in full swing and today you can treat yourself to something really nice. In her ode to matriarchal ancestry, Belgian artist Sarah Vanhee takes a look at the lives of her two grandmothers. They were women who were busy giving birth, feeding everyone, ploughing and praying basically full-time. In her tragicomic solo “Mémé”, the performer uses puppets, objects and videos as co-actors, speaking alternately in Dutch, English and West Flemish (with German subtitles). A hymn to all the grandmothers of the 20th century!

The Destruction of Democracy
Gone, just like that. Step by step, the Dollfuß government simply shut down Austrian democracy between March 1933 and February 1934. Parliamentarism, the welfare state, fundamental rights and freedoms and the constitution were undermined – seemingly legally. The current exhibition is a meticulous examination of the individual acts of this destruction. Today there is a reading of the same-named book, followed by a discussion between the author Thomas Olechowski, the editors and the curator of the Wien Museum. Shocking and unfortunately highly topical!

Pippa
Pippa is simply hip. By now, the Viennese singer-songwriter is already working on her third album “Blick”, which she will present live with her band today. In ten songs, she looks at life from a wide variety of perspectives, while her unmistakable sound of pop, rock, hip-hop, chanson, Neue Deutsche Welle and electro sounds perfectly underpins the thoughtful lyrics. Of course, she will also be performing older, much-loved songs, such as “Labyrinth”, “Tagada” or Pippa's wonderful hymn to indifference “Egal”. This is bound to be a sound party!

Triumph Lingerie - Atelier
Always exciting when traditional labels reinvent themselves. This time it's Triumph's turn. And so it's bye-bye ill-fitting bra, because thanks to an online tool, you can have your bra size determined via tablet in the boutique. Innovative! And if you're wondering what the name “Atelier” is all about – for each “My Atelier” store, a local artist is allowed to be inspired by the boutique look and create a work of art. Violetta Ehnsperg had a good eye for the Vienna store. Her happy colours harmonise perfectly with the sundowner-red walls and lingerie shelves made of light wood!

Sil
That's the dream of many gourmets: breakfast all day. At Sil it becomes reality, because here there is only breakfast on the menu – daily until 21:00. But it's better to call it brunch, because in addition to classics and (original) egg dishes, they also serve heartier fare. Catfish with asparagus, for example, or rainbow cauliflower with dried apricot chutney. It tastes great and is served in a smart ambience, with huge dried flower arrangements serving as decoration and even hanging from the ceiling. Note: Although the Sil is really spacious, you should definitely make a reservation!
