"Heya Girls!"
Well, it's time to put on our walking shoes again! On “Vienna Walking Day”, curious visitors, strollers and history lovers can go on a free discovery tour – right in the heart of the city, around Schwedenplatz. The tour always starts at the Urania, and on three routes, the tour guides show that Vienna can surprise you even in places that you think you know. At Schwedenplatz, which many find ugly, you will learn that this much-maligned transport hub was once an important part of the city's history – you just have to look closely. Praterstraße, on the other hand, used to be the “Jägerzeile” and then Vienna's first magnificent boulevard – today it attracts visitors with the aroma of coffee, sidewalk cafés and a touch of retro charm. And those who prefer to follow the spirit of science will find what they are looking for in the old university quarter, where Benedictines, Jesuits and a certain Duke Rudolf IV once laid the foundation for Vienna's scholarship. All tours are free of charge, no registration required – just curiosity and a good mood ;-)

Wishing you a week full of discoveries,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Bamboo, Light, Paper
Who would have thought that you can create something so delightful with bamboo sticks and paper! During the two-day workshop at Papierwespe, creative participants will learn how to split and bend bamboo sticks using heat. Once the sweet grass has been shaped into the desired form, it can be used to create wonderful lighting fixtures. The bamboo frame is then covered with beautiful types of paper to later create impressive light effects. Please bring the following items to the workshop: a work coat, scissors, and a cutter with a narrow blade.

The range includes cute dog coats, handbags made from men's trousers, hats in funny shapes and decorative items such as saddle covers for bicycles. Everything looks really stylish and not at all like upcycling!

With Needle and Thread: Mixed Media
Now that looks cool! Barbara Weiland grew up in a Trachten tailoring business, discovered her love of embroidery at the age of 13 and has been creating unique works of art from personal finds, paper and embroidery ever since. Inspired by this, you can create your own mixed media work in a two-day workshop. You may bring along anything that tells a story: photos, cinema tickets, fabric remnants, dried flowers... At the end, everyone takes home a finished, mounted picture – and a second one that is still a work in progress and can continue to grow.

Bad Ida
The music of the Viennese band Bad Ida is a soothing blend of subtle magic, emotion and tonal elegance. At the heart of this is Ines Dallaji's distinctive voice, whose gentle timbre immediately gets under your skin. The band moves between contemporary R&B, pop and a touch of rock; they themselves call their sound “garage soul”. You can hear what it sounds live today at the Sargfabrik, where Bad Ida will be presenting their latest album “Ending Things” – straightforward R&B, infused with some raw rock’n’roll and steeped in melancholic beauty.

Festival of Life Stories
Today is a day of celebration! We celebrate storytelling and remembrance as a bridge between generations and as an opportunity to follow fascinating traces of life. The LOT research laboratory will be bringing together a host of interesting personalities for exciting panel discussions, performances and virtual art walks. One of this year's highlights will be the audiography, meaning the moving art form of audible biography.  RAMEN SHOP
VOLXkino at Gleis//Garten
What do cuisine and cinema have in common? Both bring people together, and even cold-a-phobes dare to venture outside again in the evening. The meeting place for this is currently the Gleis//Garten every Monday evening. That's when the food market transforms into a pop-up indoor cinema with free admission. While films about cuisine flicker across a 20 m² screen, it's not uncommon for stomachs to start rumbling in the auditorium – but they can be quickly appeased with treats from the many food stalls. Waltz dancing at Siebensternplatz
Vienna without waltzes – unthinkable! But if you find the lavish balls a little overwhelming, there's a chance to shake a leg in a more relaxed setting today. At Siebensternplatz, the merchants of the 7th district, together with the residents, kick off the ball season and invite everyone to a special, extra-long waltz. Patient professionals from the Kopetzky Dance School will demonstrate the basic steps of the waltz, while the Brokat dance ensemble will add a festive touch with their historical costumes. Everyone can join in the waltz rhythm, regardless of their dancing skills.

Cucina Povera
Down-to-earth, simple, and absolutely delicious! Literally translated, Cucina Povera means “poor people's cuisine”, and it stands for honest, wholesome, and yet surprisingly refined dishes. Using just a few fresh ingredients and simple cooking techniques, Bruno Ciccaglione demonstrates how to create delectable dishes steeped in Italian tradition. The evening's menu is presented over a glass of prosecco before everyone gets to work chopping, cooking, seasoning, and plating. Afterward, everyone enjoys the meal together in a relaxed atmosphere. Tailored for freedom
She went down in history as Klimt's muse. But Emilie Flöge was so much more than just the woman in “The Kiss”. As a fashion designer, she liberated Viennese women from the corset long before Coco Chanel and opened the first concept store in the history of design worldwide. Flöge was also unconventional in her private life, maintaining a veritable on-again, off-again relationship with Gustav Klimt. “Tailored to Freedom” tells the story of her emancipation, presented as both a play and a micrograph of Vienna's social and artistic movements on the cusp of modernity. Brilliant!

On the Edge
Pseudo-funny clowns and mistreated animals? No! Circus is infinitely more multifaceted. The “On the Edge” festival for experimental circus arts is currently showcasing these facets with ten national and international productions at three venues. Classic circus techniques merge with dance, performance art, theatre, music, and visual arts. Today, for example, at the Theater am Werk, you can see “Le Repos du Guerrier”, a solo show by Edouard Peurichard that, with plenty of self-irony, questions the profession of the circus performer itself. Truly original!

The 16-member retro film orchestra Velvet Elevator was founded in 2005 to bring the wonderful melodies of TV and film soundtracks from the 1960s to the 1980s to the stage. Together with Die Strottern, the orchestra now embarks on a quest for Wienerlied songs and chansons, as they were created in the 1970s and 80s, primarily in the legendary Austrophon Studio at the Wiener Konzerthaus. A musical tour of Vienna awaits, featuring familiar tunes, updated versions, and new pieces, ranging from fragile to opulent. It’s going to be great once again!

bon ton
We've known and loved Brigitte Amort's exquisitely curated ceramic beauties for a long time. But recently, the Italian-born artist moved all her treasures to Bauernmarkt, and the new boutique is absolutely delightful! It's a bit like a gallery, with plenty of space to display the colourful tableware, romantic teapots with floral porcelain appliqués and eye-catcher vases. The centre-piece is a long dining table, so beautifully set that you will want to arrange a dinner date there right away. From individual pieces to handcrafted series – everything is gorgeous and very dangerous for your wallet ;-)

Aux
Finding the entrance isn't easy, as Aux is cleverly hidden away in the (abandoned) Funkhaus. Standing in front of the main entrance, you'll see a garage door to the left – that's where you go in. Behind a door covered in chalk writing was once the ORF's sound archive and now it's probably the coolest bar in Vienna. The bar consists of old archive cabinets, vintage tables and glasses with pickles. Cool and chill. But what comes out of the kitchen is quite sensational: great tapas (the Manchego!), roast beef on celery and tonka cream or black salsify with miso. Plus great wines – and the friendliest service in a long time!
