"Heya Girls!"
Yes, ladies, the time of year when we need presents has finally arrived! The WeihnachtsQuartier is the perfect place to spend your money on the first weekend of Advent.100 creative minds will be selling their treasures at the Urania, indoors and heated! So, three days of hustle and bustle, but also lots of great gifts such as stylish fashion by Berit Steffin, concrete objects from Studio Findig or the funny penguins by Sabine Berchtold (photo). However, for the first time, CitySpotterGirl will not be there – I have moved my stand to the Waldviertel this year. In Ottenschlag, my second home, “Adventzauber” (Advent Magic) is taking place on the same weekend. And there I have prepared some particularly beautiful books for you! You can buy all of CitySpotterGirl's Wundergarten publishing house's reading material, as well as books that I have written for other publishers in recent years. These include travel guides, a gourmet bible for our favourite city and, of course, our classic “Das Wiener Musterbuch”.

Hemayat: Open House
For years, Hemayat has been doing some very important work for our society with its trauma therapy care and treatment of torture and war survivors. Today, you can visit the new, larger care centre in Favoriten and learn more about the work done there during a speed-dating session through the therapy rooms. In addition, former Hemayat client Kamran Ghaderi will read from his book about his time in an Iranian prison. There will also be insights into art therapy, a photo exhibition and, in the evening, the wonderful Violetta Parisini will perform on the stairs!

The latter is currently operating as a pop-up in the 9th district, offering a unique fusion of traditional Japanese cuisine and international influences. For two days only, foodies can enjoy wonton soups, freshly filled hand rolls or hearty okonomiyaki (Japanese pancakes). Orange Week
This week, the world will once again throw itself into a frenzied shopping spree for one day. True to the motto “Orange is the New Black”, 48er-Tandler will be taking a stand against this shopping hysteria and wastefulness and is launching a conscious alternative to Black Friday: for one week, you can browse through their second-hand range, with all of the proceeds going to charitable organisations. There will also be a number of free events and workshops. Today, for example, there are everyday hacks on how to use and repair food, furniture and bicycles cleverly!

And it's also the name of a wonderful women's project in Marrakesh. In the Moroccan Handicraft Association, physically disabled women embroider clothing, fashion and home accessories. The textiles are really beautiful and will be shining in Vienna this weekend. For three days, Alnour will be setting up shop at Safran & Cie – with the finest table and bed linen, scarves and cushions, hand-embroidered with cheerful decorations.

Vienna's first drag sitcom is being recorded in front of a live audience today. “Just Gorgeous – Beauty for Dead People” follows two drag queens, make-up artist La ‘Terre and hairdresser Babba, who run a not very successful beauty salon. In a last-ditch attempt to save themselves from financial ruin, they risk everything and temporarily transform their beauty salon into a funeral parlour. Today, you can be there for the live recording of the first episode!

Now for something completely different: today, you can embark on a Baroque musical journey. From early Baroque arias to cantatas and madrigals, countertenor Jakub Jozef Orlinski (who also performs as a breakdancer!) presents the art of singing with the highest falsetto voice. Orlinski even became a YouTube star with his high notes. With pieces by renowned composers such as Monteverdi, Cavalli and Barbara Strozzi, the programme will feature works by lesser-known musicians. Through these gems from the past, Orlinski aims to demonstrate that these pieces are still relevant and moving today.

Wow, today you can bid on works by Arnulf Rainer, Gunter Damisch & Co! And do some good in the process. Renowned artists and established names from Austria's young art scene have donated selected works to the NGO Asyl in Not. The charitable organisation offers refugees legal advice and representation in asylum proceedings. As the association is financed almost exclusively by donations, it holds the annual Kunstasyl charity auction. You can bid via the Dorotheum website, and from today all the works are on display at Reaktor Wien!

16 Bands vs Violence Against Women
When the barley floor of the Ottakringer Brewery becomes a stage for commitment and empathy, there is more at stake than musical entertainment: at today's concerts, 16 local acts are raising their voices against violence towards women, sending a powerful message. Musicians such as Lizz Görgl, Don Dom, Zug nach Wien and Omegaherz will be performing everything from pop to rock to metal. There will also be a Secret Santa raffle, and after the concerts you can continue dancing at the DJ after-show. A musical manifesto for equality and respect!

The Nuns of Goldenstein
In recent months, the story of the nuns of Goldenstein has been making headlines around the world. After being sent to a retirement home against their will, three nuns refused to accept their fate and returned to their old convent behind their superior's back. Author Edith Meinhart spent months following the incredible story of Sisters Bernadette, Rita and Regina, who feel they have been robbed of their monastic existence, financial resources and life's work. She has now documented their story in her new book. The presentation is today, with the three nuns present!

It polarises in the finest possible way, but there's no ignoring it: the new market hall at Naschmarkt. 13 stalls selling regional produce now occupy the 800 m² glass-fronted building. These include mushroom variations from Hut & Stiel, Apulian cheese specialities made in Vienna by Fratelli Valentino, and the Sorger bakery from Styria. The “Brutal am Markt” stall is run by the creators from Bistro Fantasy – and you can eat your meal in the spacious food area, which is beautifully decorated with Dolls flowers. When the weather is fine, you can enjoy your coffee afterwards on the roof terrace with a great view of the Otto Wagner ensemble!

With the ice age officially upon us, you can't help but dream of warmer climes – how about bella Venezia? Then head to the first district! There, Tim Schächter (known from Shiso Burger) has opened a new aperitivo bar that's entirely dedicated to the Venetian spirit. Spritz variations, “Rosa di Lido” with vodka, rose liqueur and cardamom, or Prosecco on tap are served with cicchetti, or Italian appetisers, like truffle ricotta tramezzini, sardine crostini, or mortadella di pistacchio – pure Italian vibes! Amazing: the location may be cosy and small, but the lagoon-green glazed ceiling makes it seem infinitely high!
