"Heya Girls!"
We like to talk about the wealth of digital images in connection with social media. But: There has already been a flood of images on a massive scale once before. Namely around 1900, when the picture postcard was invented, conquered the world and became a mass medium. Postcards (which are not illustrated!) were sent as early as 1869 in Austria, the first country in the world to do so, but when drawn and photographed cards appeared around the turn of the century, there was no stopping them. The Viennese picture postcard also experienced a boom around 1900, then became a predominantly tourist medium in the post-war period and most recently experienced an astonishing revival. The Wien Museum, which owns a huge selection of picture postcards, has now taken up this theme. “Big City / Small Format” is the name of the exhibition, which for the first time attempts to comprehensively show the history of the picture postcard in Vienna. And yes, even in the past people cheated with the pictures in order to provide particularly “beautiful” representations of Vienna. Fake news, so to speak ;-)

The band name alone makes you want to listen. When the indie rock band's front woman Mia brings her singer/songwriter sounds to bear, you're in for a treat. These also provide the perfect basis for the rocky, distorted riffs and beats of her band mates Sascha, Pascal and Fabio. Today, the Voralbergers present, among other things, their latest single “Loving like a fool”. The different influences of the four musicians, which each brings from previous bands, are again unmistakable here and give the songs that certain je ne sais quoi – but it's best to check it out yourself!

Ethnocineca
A cinematic look into distant worlds! The film festival ethnocineca once again shows 57 ethnographic and documentary films from all over the world for a whole week at the Votiv Kino and the De France. And they are by no means dry, but very close to life, touching and stirring. Today, for example, Vahagn Khachatryan and Eva Blondiau deliver a portrait of their homeland Armenia as a country that exists between the past and the future. “Betwixt and Between”, on the other hand, is about experiences of fleeing, insecurity and the strains of arriving. Recommended!

Joseph Heer: Slot
At what point does paint actually become painting? This is a question that Joseph Heer likes to use as inspiration for his minimalist works. Instead of thinking about a precise motif in advance, the Viennese artist likes to imagine that it is only a matter of colour samples whose character he wants to explore. And so it happens that his colour plays sometimes present themselves as neatly separated geometric surfaces or, for example, swirl cloud-like into one another at the edge of the picture – in his current exhibition, preferably in blue, burgundy, yellow and grey. The vernissage is today!

Jane’s Walk Vienna
Now you can curiously stroll through Vienna on amusing detours and unknown sneaky paths! All those who know hidden paths or would like to reveal secret neighbourhood-tips simply organise private guided tours. These original “Jane's Walks” take place at the beginning of May – in memory of the city planner Jane Jacobs – in many cities around the world. In Vienna, for example, you can follow the tracks of the former cog railway up the Kahlenberg or follow Bernardo Bellotto (Canaletto) through the city centre to rediscover Maria Theresa's baroque Vienna. Ganymede Bridge
Always great when the pictures in the KHM are brought to life in “Ganymede”! This year, for the first time, the successful project named “Ganymed Bridge” dares to build a bridge between culture and nature and connects the Kunsthistorisches Museum with the Naturhistorisches Museum. For this, authors, composers and performers have been invited to develop works about objects in the zoological showrooms and masterpieces in the picture gallery. Participants include the writer Amélie Nothomb (on Titian) and the performer Liliya Burdinskaya (Corvus corax). The premiere is today!

It is stylish, simple and has the perfect Viennese chic: the Viennese blouse. For decades, it was an export hit of the lingerie industry and always handmade from the finest materials such as ajour, loop stitch embroidery, fillet inserts and lace. The Austrian Fashion Board is now bringing the fashion masterpiece back before the curtain with modern reinterpretations by 35 local designers. The exhibition is framed by examples from the archive of Rositta, the last manufacturer of the Viennese blouse. Definitely a must-see for all fashion lovers and history buffs!

Best of all, shopping means doing good in this case because the flea market is organised by the Obdachlosenhilfe Schwester Grata, which ensures that the net proceeds benefit homeless people in emergency situations!

The cosmopolitan Salam Orient Music Festival is once again exploring the Middle East and the Arab world. The destination for today: a little bit of everything. Because the instrumentalists of Constantinople have joined forces with the Tunisian-Belgian singer Ghalia Benali to give poems by the Persian poet Rumi a musical voice. And since the word artist, who lived in the 13th century, described his origins as “neither from the East, nor from the West”, his poems have neither spatial nor linguistic boundaries, either. Ciao ragazzi! The Prater has recently taken on the air of dolce vita at its best. The Cannaregio, part of the Hotel Superbude, has opened its doors – or rather windows. The small aperitivo bar is located in a converted Prater information stall, framed by wooden benches and green terrazzo tables. In good weather, you can perfetto play the sun-worshipping grace here. This looks best with a Campari in hand and fresh antipasti on the plate. Naturalmente, there are also Italo beats for your listening pleasure – you know where to find CitySpotterGirl in the summer!
