"Heya Girls!"
Women's book clubs have a long history, dating back to the 19th century in Austria and Germany. Ultimately, all the salons in Vienna and Berlin – from Rahel Varnhagen to Berta Zuckerkandl – were used for the exchange of knowledge between women (okay, men too, but for women this was the only place for that) and for the exchange of books. And anyone familiar with the book clubs of Hollywood stars Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey with their millions of members knows that this is still the case today. As an author and owner of a publishing house, I obviously love book clubs! A particularly cool one starts next Wednesday: the MQ Female Empowerment Book Club. On the summer stage of the MuseumsQuartier, Lilian Klebow and Teresa Vogl will regularly offer valuable tips on literature with encouraging messages and content, as well as readings, discussions and guests on the podium. A kind of conscious female counterpoint to the predominantly male-oriented European Football Championship. Motto: Hurray, we're still reading...
Wishing you a bookish week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Theft
The systematic disenfranchisement, persecution and eventual murder of Viennese Jews between 1938 and 1945 was accompanied by an unprecedented campaign of theft: thousands of Viennese flats and houses were looted by Nazi organisations, but also by private individuals. In an exciting project – a double exhibition with the Wien Museum – “Theft” traces this process of looting, incorporation and finally restitution. The exhibition opens today – at the Jewish Museum the focus is on the stolen objects, at the Wien Museum on their arrival in the museums.

Theatre Walk: Habsbuger narrisch
With entertainment this good, even the laziest of walkers will be encouraged to go out into the fresh air! Because the Schubert Theater is organising one of its famous “walks for the figure” today. Walkers will meet the old Habsburgs in Arne Karlsson Park and at the Fool's Tower: Sisi speaks from beyond the grave through a duck and Franz contradicts her through a stag's head. The two argue about who is to blame for Crown Prince Rudolf's tragic life – while the vampire Maximilian rages against the monarchy. Funny and educational!
Meeting point: Schubert Theater, Währinger Straße 46, 1090 Vienna. 9 June 15:00. Please book in advance. 29 €. Web

Frauenzimmer
Contrary to the omnipresent self-optimisation mania, there are fortunately still places where more beautiful realisations apply – namely that we already are what we long for. Nancy Lee Akinci Seymann's embodiment course, which you can attend today in the Frauenzimmer, is also based on this realisation. With movement, dialogue, silence and respectful, healing touch, the aim is to bring your own place of power to life. The wisdom and beauty that each of us carries within us will be nurtured until we feel like what we are: beautiful, relaxed, happy goddesses! :-)

Shell Silk – Spun Gold
Who knew? Not only the silkworm has the great talent to produce precious silk threads, no, a mussel also competes with it in that area. To be more precise, the fan mussel. There are several glands on its foot that release different proteins. In the water, these harden into threads with which the mussels adhere to the substrate. At today's themed evening, experts will talk about the most precious tissue in the world – it’s about biology, ecology and threats to fan mussels, the history of mussel silk and the donation of an object to the NHM!

TTSWTRS
The skin is the dividing line between our inner and outer world, says Anna Osmekhina, founder of the fashion label TTSWTRS. The name means “Tattoo Sweaters” – the Ukrainian brand's core product. The super-soft and ultra-thin bodysuits are printed with patterns by professional tattoo artists and look like a second skin in skin tones. The hip pieces are now also available in the Vienna branch. Among antique-looking columns and neon lights, you will also find some really unusual trompe l'oeil designs, such as a T-shirt dress that looks wet and transparent. Big plus: all materials are sustainable!
