"Heya Girls!"
By golly, nothing but Christmas stalls and designer markets wherever you look. But who actually provides the right music for this glittering season? Conchita! On Saturday, Tom Neuwirth invites you to his Christmas show “Conchita Sings The Classics” for a lovingly sparkling journey through “New Nostalgia” – serving up a concert that oscillates somewhere between Marlene Dietrich, Hildegard Knef and a particularly glittery snow globe. With tongue-in-cheek elegance, he presents evergreens and his own hits, which, thanks to his unmistakable interpretation, sound as if they have been given a new winter coat: classically cut, but unmistakably Conchita. With an expanded band, he conjures up an atmospheric Christmas Special that blends warm melancholy and sparkling modernity. Charming, poignant and with a stage presence that makes even Christmas trees stand to attention, Conchita guides us through the evening – a best-of that makes hearts and humour shine.

Wishing you a brilliant week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Christmas Market Under Palm Trees
No, there's no need to fly to the Maldives for that; we just need to take a trip to the eighth district. Today, many artists are opening their stalls in the Ludo Hartmann Hof, which is lined with ceramic palm trees: Anatol Brockmeyer's graphics from old encyclopaedias are imaginative, illustrator Daniela Aleman lets you dive into fairy-tale worlds, and eye-catching outfits are provided by Maku's fashionable creations made from leather industry scraps and Safety Glitter's reflective beanies. Reinhold Schachner treats visitors to pear cider, and CupCakes Wien tempts them with its sweet sins!

CitySpotterGirl + Wundergarten
Ta-da! We will be hosting a flea market today, selling books from our in-house publishing house, Wundergarten! On offer are our travel guides, our pattern books and Vienna encyclopaedias. Because it sometimes does happen that books are treated a bit roughly during transport. What remains are beautiful copies – that have some minor flaws. And even flawless books that are a little out of date in some places are available at super low prices (from 2 euros)! An Advent atmosphere, a glass of wine and also our brand-new books await you! :-)

Roboexotica
That would be a nice request to Santa Claus: a robot that mixes and serves drinks! Doesn't exist? Oh yes, it does – today at Roboexotica, the festival for cocktail robotics. This year's technological marvels will be showing off their skills in the “Guess Your Cocktail” augmented reality bar game or with glasses that store wishes and emit sounds when clinked together. The futuristic and technologically intoxicating festival will take place at the Ottakringer Kunsttankstelle, which will mutate into a cocktail filling station and will certainly have enough fuel in its tanks for all visitors ;-)

Vive la France! This market, organised by the Francophone association Vienne Accueil, showcases French craftsmanship. Today, the association is hosting a fine design market with jewellery, decorations, accessories, ceramics and stationery. At the Kolpinghaus in Währing, actually a student residence, Christmas stockings can be eagerly filled, for instance with crocheted jewellery from Wari, beautiful paper flowers from Anne-Isabelle Lacassagne or festive table linen from Karolina Hildebrand. Don't forget: Christmas is just under two weeks away ;-)

 Stephanie Guse
Willhaben: Commissioned Art
Everyone usually has a favourite work of art by a great painter – but not everyone has a work of art that features their own humble self! That's where Stephanie Guse comes in. The artist has made it her talent to photograph people and then transform the photograph using a photo collage technique she developed herself, so that you kind of become part of a real Klimt, Rubens or Velasquez painting! Today, you can bring along a picture of your favourite historical painting and plan the possibility of your personalised work together with Stephanie!

Diorama Manufactory
Good news for photography fans: artists Gerd Winkler and Marko Zink have been creating their iconic dioramas for quite some time now, and these amusing photo-figure artworks can be admired and purchased at the new pop-up until 14 December! For those who don't know them yet, the dioramas are constructed in small frames with a photo or glass background and collectible figures. This creates little stories full of poetry and humour, somewhere between art, design and pop culture. A real eye-catcher that is sure to look good wrapped in gift paper ;-)

Froth on the Daydream
Painters, poets and musicians work to the rhythm of the sea, under the open sky off the Adriatic coast. Sounds like something out of an arty indie film, doesn't it? But it's actually real and happens in the remote bay of Palmizana. There, Croatian art collector Dagmar Meneghello has built her island academy over six decades – her goal was art as an antidote to banality. The exhibition “Froth on the Daydream” takes Meneghello's idea as inspiration and shows a magnificent selection of recent Croatian painting and sculpture. Today is the vernissage!

Jane Austen fans should make a pilgrimage to England right now, where the British author's 250th birthday is currently being celebrated in style. Die Verschissene Zeit
Bitter people, dangerous street gangs, neglected stray dogs and a retired Balkan pop icon: Barbi Marković's novel “Die Verschissene Zeit” (The Shitty Time) will be coming to the stage and takes us to Belgrade in the 1990s. Vanja, Marko and Kasandra grow up in the concrete castles of a crumbling Yugoslavia. They tell the story of a generation that started off in a school uniform in the 1980s and then ended up fighting over the “right” shoes and jeans after the advent of turbo-capitalism. Memories of a time when the adults screwed everything up.

Sin
Sin in Margareten feels like a fresh start in familiar surroundings. Where Simon Xie Hong's “On” used to be, long-time employee Willi Szilagyi now runs the restaurant – calmly, clearly and with a palpable appreciation for the cuisine he has helped shape over the years. Visually, everything has remained the same, but Asian flavours now increasingly meet European influences, without frills, but with honest craftsmanship. The menu features lots of bowls, homemade dumplings, Thai goulash and vegan ideas. The lamb skewers with peanuts are delicious, and the chorizo with noodles from the wok is the best fusion food. Be warned: spicy!
