"Heya Girls!"
There is hardly anything better than chocolate – except perhaps more of it. And in times like these, you can never have enough of it at home. Fortunately, we Viennese are well supplied: at the weekend, the Marx Halle will be transformed into a single, fragrant chocolate universe. Spanning 12,000 square metres, you can sample an array of chocolate-based delicacies, including chocolate skewers, chocolate liqueur, chocolate beer, and even chocolate pizza. For those seeking a little adventure, there's the infamous chocolate kebab. In workshops, you can learn how to make pralines with ease. Brigitta Schickmaier, a multiple award-winning master confectioner and Austrian Chocolate Master, demonstrates simple techniques that will turn anyone into a praline pro. Melanie Kröpfl, alias NomNom by Melli, shares her recipe for the quickest vegan chocolate cake – to marvel at and to be enjoyed later! And of course, chocolate doesn't solve problems. But let's be honest – neither does an apple ;-)

Wishing you a sweet week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

After “10 years of staying dry and looking fly”, the time has sadly come: Mathilda and Gerhild from Gummistiefelhaus are saying goodbye to Vienna. For us, that means that we will have to look elsewhere in future to keep our feet stylish and practically dry... Or you can simply take advantage of the current farewell sale and stock up on rubber boots and raincoats with a 30% discount, which will last you through all the downpours and hailstorms ;-) It pays to be quick, because the sale is only valid while stocks last – and these stylish rubber boots are known to be popular.

 Das Schottische Prinzip
Das Schottische Prinzip
Das Schottische Prinzip are four girls who, as an indie pop band, pursue the science fiction idea that priests should preserve knowledge about nuclear waste disposal sites for generations to come. With their current album “Golden Voyager Record Vol. III”, Das Schottische Prinzip send themselves into space as astronauts – before Elon Musk or other super-rich people litter the cosmos with their space capitalism. You can experience for yourself how much futurism sounds like music tonight, because the ladies perform live at Club 1019. You can listen in here!

Only Over My Decomposing Body!
Now this sounds cool: When today's exhibition “The Belly knows before the Brain” is dismantled at the KunstHaus, its organic materials will be returned to the ecological cycle. This is not only practical, but also a meaningful way to give something back to the microbial world. Compost, felt and mineral raw materials will be turned into nutrient-rich soil full of microbes. At the end, visitors will be able to take home some of these components and distribute them in gardens, compost heaps and habitats, thus continuing the regenerative energy of the artwork!

 Andrea Maurer
How to write poetry with a hammer
It sounds kind of brutal at first, but it's actually truly unique! Because today, language will literally be brought under the hammer: Words are dissected, letters knocked out, sentences rearranged. At the free workshop with artist Andrea Maurer, you can bring along some unwanted documents, from insurance policies to divorce papers, and transform them into love letters or sonatas of letters. Because what works in everyday life will be poetically derailed here and deconstructed into your own artistic texts. Quite a lot of fun!

 We Bandits
We Bandits: Korean Fashion Sale
The concept was great – just not very Corona-compliant... Because for many years, We Bandits was the go-to address in Vienna for trendy Korean fashion. During the pandemic, however, founder Sophie Pollak was no longer able to travel to South Korea to get us the hottest shit for our wardrobes and unfortunately had to close her store. But We Bandits has been back with a pop-up since November, and until 29 January, you can pick up Korean fashion pieces such as oversized jackets, cosy blazers and winter Bermuda shorts at discounts of up to 50%!

Vienna – Women – 1900
Spring 1909, Vienna: Rosa Mayreder and Auguste Fickert stand in front of the Secession. Two women, known for their books, articles and protests. They fight for equality in art, politics and everyday life. Loud back then, almost forgotten today. While their contemporaries Klimt, Freud, Schnitzler etc. are celebrated, they remain in the shadows. Because women, it was said, were muses, not creators. Rosa and Auguste disagree. They take up space and demand visibility. It’s surprising then that Vienna has over 200 monuments – and only 4 for women?

Chalisée Naamani: Octogone
Some of them make you want to slouch on top of them, others make you wonder whether they are art or objects belonging to a visitor, and others you could slip right into. French-Iranian artist Chalisée Naamani creates her sculptures, prints and textile works by superimposing and collaging images and texts. Within them you find details of fabrics, paintings and photographs that are shaped into soft sculptures. This is Naamani’s first solo exhibition outside France. The vernissage is today, and Chalisée will also be present for an artist talk!

Mi's Booknook
“Cosy reading” is the motto at this brand-new and enchanting bookshop on Lerchenfelderstraße. At Mi's Booknook, it's not just the décor that exudes cosiness, but also the selection of books: romance, fantasy and a few crime novels, chosen by the owners' mother and grandmother (just scary enough that even scaredy-cats can read them ;-) While browsing, you can choose from coffee, cake or one of 13 types of tea, and snuggle up in comfy nooks above the radiator. There are also plenty of English titles available, and the books are all strikingly beautiful!

 Atelier7
Atelier 7
Where the Commercial Court once sat, the perfect bouillabaisse is now being judged. This upmarket brasserie's menu is all about seafood and fish with a touch of extravagance. The culinary plot twist? A halibut cordon bleu – breaded fish with ham, the punk rock of the menu, so to speak. While the octopus terrine and scallops taste great, the interior revels in a mix of Art Deco and Dubai glamour. No wonder, Atelier 7 belongs to the new luxury hotel Mandarin Oriental. Expensive? Sure. But who counts coins when the starter is bread made from croissant dough?
