editorial

"Heya Girls!"
Wow, time is flying by! Many Viennese are on holiday and CitySpotterGirl’s editorial team, too, can already see the sea glistening at the end of the tunnel. But there are still two issues of your favourite newsletter to come before the summer break. Usually, we present the best shops and restaurants in the last issue before the holidays – but because there are so many beautiful new shops and fine new restaurants this year, we have split it into two newsletters for the first time. So this time: Lots of shops that have opened in recent months and that we really like! The restaurants will follow next week. And until then, I highly recommend a detour to Volksgarten. As you all know, over 3,000 rose bushes in a wide variety of colours are blooming there, and on 26 July, this very rose garden will become an open-air stage for around 30 Wienerlied artists. In several locations in the garden, Agnes Palmisano, the wonderful Kollegium Kalksburg and Tini Kainrath (photo) will be strumming, singing and yodelling right up close to the audience. Admission is free!

Wishing you a rosy week,
Your CitySpotterGirl

Edition Rosen, Volksgarten, 1010 Vienna. 26 July, 15:00 to 19:00. Free entry. Web

musette shop
This shop is not exactly new, but the address is! musette has moved from Westbahnstraße to Neubaugasse and has even more space for its range of books, stationery, fashion, ceramics and more now, which changes every three months. Founder Isabelle Blanc is inspired by a major overarching theme, which she uses to put together her eye-catchers. Each theme is traditionally accompanied by an “Apéro musette”, where experts are invited to share their knowledge. In short: whether it's for shopping, workshops or a chat – in the museum shop-like boutique with baroque-style seating niches, you're sure to be kissed by the muse ;-)

Goesslie Atelier
Even though it took Rosalie Goess-Enzenberg a few steps in her career – for example as an accessories designer for Karl Lagerfeld – her career as a jewellery designer already began at 12. It was then that she discovered polymer clay, which is still her favourite material today, and created pearl necklaces for her teachers. Today, her jewellery is more delicate, but still colourful. Rosalie also likes to embellish earrings, bracelets etc. with gold-plated pendants or glass beads. In her brand-new store with its clean white interior, the pretty jewellery perfectly complements Rosalie's one-line-face artwork!

fabrari - wear the world
With her sustainable fashion label, Fanny Abrari wants to creatively express her appreciation for the world – and it looks really smart! fabrari may not be brand-new, but it's her own store. Because with the cosy pavilion on Stallburggasse, Fanny has found the perfect home for her colourful natural fabric dreams. The Iranian-born designer prints them without chemicals, using her own photographs. These range from her aunt's carpet patterns to enchanting landscape motifs from her homeland. And everything is incredibly detailed, with each garment bearing the photo of its print and a matching quote as a label!

Hafi Books + Coffee
Cosy lighting, niche seating areas, relaxed beats and the smell of cosiness: coffee and book paper! The new book shop by social designer Clara Roth and cameraman Valentin Lilgenau exudes real living room vibes. You can help yourself to finely curated queer, feminist and inclusive literature from the bookshelves (almost all in English) and browse with a coffee from the in-house coffee shop (the coffee machine is bright yellow and so cool!). Further back in the store, things get artsy, because with the founding couple's background in design, a corner with photo books, otherwise hard to come by in Vienna, is a must!

Kunst & Art
Extravagances-seeking shoppers beware: This is a real gem of a vintage shop! Originally a private collection, Samantha and Boris have created a paradise for unusual treasures in Kirchengasse. From fashion to tribal art, comics to artwork, this is the place to spruce up not only yourself but also your home. But it's important to bring time! Because when Boris, who is actually an archaeologist, suddenly shows you bracelets from the Bronze Age, you know that you willprobably never finish browsing here. By the way, if you fall in love with a larger piece – furniture is delivered free of charge. How likeable!

&Friends
Yasmin actually wanted to emigrate to Mallorca – now she has brought the Mediterranean island to Vienna! The store has been around since 2020, but now at a new address and much bigger. The Mediterranean oasis, illuminated by seaweed lamps, smells of botanical aromas – matching the sea of dried flower wreaths! Which you can also make yourself in the workshops upstairs, by the way. Stationery, scented candles, slow fashion, decorations, jewellery, etc. come from Jasmin's friends' labels (hence the name “&Friends”), coffee to-go is served at the Balearic-inspired stone counter – like a mini holiday!

Aromapflege Evelyn Deutsch
Hmmm, that smells marvellous! No wonder when you are greeted by 120 pure natural essential oils. Just like in the newly opened store of the natural cosmetics company Evelyn Deutsch. On an area of 100 square metres, between lots of wood, sage-coloured shelves and plants, you can not only sniff your way through essential oils, but also get to know native plant oils, organic plant waters and herbal and resin tinctures – including those from well-known brands such as farfalla and Dr. Hauschka. And for those who want to delve deeper into the world of aromatherapy – the brand's own health school has also found a new home here!

Anna Aniq x Maison Babouche
Yes, summer has reached its peak, which means you can't get enough of that holiday feeling! In the Mediterranean-style concept store on Neubaugasse, you can enjoy this feeling without even having to board a plane! Kristina's Anna Aniq label specialises in the softest hammam towels made from 100% recycled cotton, all produced in Tunisia. The decorative and fashionable accessories that French-Moroccan Yasmina passionately selects in her home country are a perfect match! The hand-painted ceramic pieces from “Chabi Chic” are a particular favourite of CitySpotterGirl!

Ototo
One thing up front: A visit to Ototo is bound to be a bit of a sensory overload – but it's great! Ototo in the 7th district is something of a super-cool Greißler that sells food & beverage and lifestyle products with the prettiest packaging. But the bouncers at the product range selection entrance are strict; peanut butter, sardines, oat milk or moisturisers are not allowed in just by looking fancy! The 300 or so European brands sold here are all produced sustainably and fairly. This also justifies the sometimes quite proud price. And if you're wondering what “Ototo” means: “little brother” in Japanese.

Busenfreundin
Boobies as far as you can see! As plush key rings or light bulbs, on mugs and at Christmas time also as Christmas baubles – you can't miss Busenfreundin’s motto. The feminist-inspired label was founded by (bosom) friends Amelie and Sabrina, who have opened their brand-new boutique in the 8th district after almost 2 years as online retailers. In a bright atmosphere with a cosy sofa on which two breast-shaped cushions are enthroned, you can find everything from jewellery to fashion and stationery in the hilarious Busenfreundin look. PS: Be sure to take a look at the checkout counter – Amelie and Sabrina made it themselves and it's wow!

Jana Wieland
Big news for fashion queens: Jana Wieland has opened her first physical store! On 33 square metres in Zollergasse, you can now not only find the typical shirt silhouette pieces, but also the new bridal fashion collection for the first time. And it is anything but classic white, but in the typical “bow sleeve shirt” look, in fairy-like sorbet colours and with lots of transparency, as casual as it is romantic. You can wear it again for other occasions after the big day. The bridal wear is also at the heart of the minimalist boutique, alongside metallic cabin curtains, and floats light as a feather from the ceiling. So magical and so Jana Wieland – we love!

Schlauraum
You gotta give credit to the 18th district: There's tons of pretty stationery, stylish decorations and cute children's items here – just like in textile designer Valerie Grogger's inclusive concept store! Her label “loretta cosima” with delightfully printed accessories and stationery is already well known from her previous shop in Garnisongasse, but now Valerie has expanded and, in addition to design all sorts of things for young and old, focuses on gadgets to promote coordination, concentration, structuring and emotion regulation – and they look nothing like a medical supply store, but are really decorative. Really great and hard to find anywhere else in Vienna!

None, low and ... lame? No. Rather fizzy, surprising and horizon-expanding! Lucas Matthies, who, until recently, was marketing manager at Wein & Co, has said bye-bye to alcohol and now sells non-alcoholic and alcohol-reduced drinks. Sparkling tea, fruit cuvée or fermented proxies – you can shop and sip these unusual alternatives in a typical wine-shop atmosphere on Kaiserstrasse. Together with his sommelier partner Friederike Duhme, Lucas offers a range of over 100 products. Spoiler: Cocktail alternatives and botanical elixirs designed to influence your mood are also on the shelves here!

Eva Blut
Last winter, Eva Buchleitner celebrated the 25th anniversary of her handbag label Eva Blut and she has treated herself to a brand-new store! And it’s something really special: the shop and studio have been paired up here in Kirchengasse and everyone can watch the bags being produced under the metre-high ceilings. This fits in perfectly with Eva's credo that shops are increasingly becoming places of encounter and exchange. That's also why the furnishings are flexible: desks on wheels, partitions and curtains allow the space to be refunctioned so that workshops, pop-ups or lectures can take place here, as well.

 Chamber
Chamber
This concept combines two of our greatest passions: drinking coffee and design! Chamber has opened in the back room of the already legendary “Cafetiere”. A truly beautiful showroom that Percy Thonet and Anna Prinzhorn are constantly filling with new furniture, accessories, lighting and art. In addition to design icons such as Thonet chairs (naturally), works by young design talents are also on being showcased here. In one part of the showroom, you can also sip a cosy coffee on the furniture on display. And if you fall in love with a piece, you can get in touch with the seller directly on site!

Ebenbild
“Underwear is more than just a piece of fabric, it's a hug that accompanies you every day.” With this motto, Jennifer Windisch and Sophie Hutterer have been producing hand-sewn lingerie for all body shapes since 2020. It all started in a room in Hernals, today the girls have a cute boutique on Neustiftgasse. The best thing is that the Ebenbild studio is next door! Everything that is conjured up here from sustainable, fair materials and deadstock hangs freshly sewn on the clothes rails. And if your favourite item has a loose strap or a torn elastic – the lingerie fairies will make it look like new again. Beautiful & likable!

Anyone who would like to go on a fashion safari through their own city would do well to plan a visit to “Mystiklink Designs”! K & K Hofboutique
“k & k” not only alludes to Vienna's imperial past, but also stands for “Kleidung und Kunst” (clothing and art). Because these can be found in the new Hofboutique in the most beautiful execution. In the middle of the tourist bustle of the first district, twelve designers have come together to sell their creations in the idyllic Hofboutique. Hats by Anima, jewellery by Bana and Sakiba, fashion by Fridita, bags by Tin-G, accessories by Musterstudio – you can put together an entire outfit in this shop-turned-homage to craftsmanship. And thanks to the ever-changing guest designers, home decor and art are also up for grabs!

KOI store & ReDesign studio
The 4th district is changing right now – more and more cool stores are opening here! KOI is one of them. This is the brand-new concept store of the two designers Katrin Mayer and Elena Kouznetsova. Apart from their own slow fashion labels “Katrin Mayer” and “Zou Concept”, they also hang a finely curated selection of European, sustainable high-end labels on their clothes rails. But the highlight of the concept is probably the joint re-design label, for which Katrin and Elena work exclusively with discarded designer clothing. Everything looks drop-dead shop-worthy in the elegant urban-industrial setting! PS: The opening party is on May 15!

It's hard to believe that Neubaugasse is home to such relaxed spots! Just step into the picturesque inner yard at no. 27 and you find yourself at Wier. That's short for “wir” and “Wien”, because that's what it’s all about: The Viennese labels Good Kids Bad Society and Nullkommasiebenprozent joined forces back in 2014 and have now expanded into “Wier im Hof”.
