"Heya Girls!"
14 February often evokes a range of emotions in us Viennese ladies, from “Oh no, not this commercialism again” to “Maybe I'll get a heart-shaped Sacher cake after all”. But, before we collectively dismiss the day as an invention of the flower lobby, let me tell you: Vienna has more to offer than dusty waltz kitsch! Whether you're newly in love (enjoy the hormones!), have been in a relationship for so long that you argue about how to sort rubbish, or are celebrating this day as a proud single queen, the city has plenty to offer on Valentine's Day. After closing time, the Upper Belvedere invites couples to “kiss before the kiss” – they can have their picture taken professionally and free of charge in front of Klimt's famous painting. At the VHS, you can paint funny portraits of your partner, and at IKEA Westbahnhof, there's a traffic light party (red balloon means taken, green balloon means single). Clementine im Glashaus is serving a love sharing menu, and at First Escape, singles can find their match on a blind date in the escape room. And, as every year, the Gartenbaukino is showing “Before Sunrise”. Because that’s a must!

Wishing you a loving week,

Art and cuisine – two great things that you can now experience at the same location as of late: Petra and Daniel Karl already launched the Davy Art Space as a pop-up last year. Now, this cool space has found a permanent home, which will be inaugurated today as part of an exhibition opening. On display will be the pastel paintings by Iris Kojaman. In the future, Davy Art Space will continue to cater to both experienced collectors and art enthusiasts who are new to the field. To this end, there will also be regular culinary events. Sounds exciting!

Mikk
You could say Mikk uses her music as self-therapy. With a mix of folktronica, indie pop, and rock, the singer-songwriter explores not only psychological processes in cultural and social spheres, but also her own inner landscape. In her second EP, “Reverberations”, she delves into the theme of letting go and all the emotional nuances that can accompany an intense relationship—from anger, vulnerability, and loneliness to empowerment. Curious? You can find a listening sample here, but the best way to experience her music is to hear her live tonight!

 One Billion Rising Austria
One Billion Rising
Worldwide, one in three women will experience abuse or rape in her lifetime. That's why American feminist Eve Ensler declared Valentine's Day V-Day in 2012 and launched the “One Billion Rising” campaign to send a visible message against abuse. Since then, every year on 14 February, millions of women from 200 countries have taken to the streets to dance for a life free from violence. Vienna will also be participating in the event – the dancing starts today at 15:00 in the Square of Human Rights. In the days leading up to it, you can practice at several dance workshops!

Darling West
There is music you hear and music you feel. Oslo-based Darling West creates the latter. Their songs make you picture endless roads, campfires under the starry sky, freedom. The focus is on the impressive, fairy-tale-like solo and duet vocals of Mari Sandvaer and Tor Egil Kreken. They accompany themselves on acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and kick drum, sounding like a modern Fleetwood Mac. Indie pop, Laurel Canyon folk, Nordicana – genres are just terms. Darling West makes music that connects. You can hear them live today!

Among many other things, the famous lion dance will be performed, and dancing enthusiasts can learn the steps for it. No prior knowledge required. Since 2021, the staunch feminist has also been chairwoman of the SPÖ Women's Organisation, and today she will be a guest at Club alpha, where she answers questions about her life journey and her goals and visions for advancing women's equality.  Orchester Divertimento Viennese
Bel Ami
The Roaring Twenties – a time of cosmopolitanism, liberalism, and witty humour! Jazz music, Charleston, and Shimmy from America, the New World, made their way to Europe and turned traditional culture upside down. Allusions to sexual innuendo made German-language hit songs particularly popular. Today, the Divertimento Viennese orchestra, together with tenor Paul Schweinester, will bring back the wonderful, carefree spirit of that era. Host Teresa Vogl will guide the audience through the evening with great charm. The Vienna premiere will be happening today!

Burgtheater: Now the stage speaks!
The Burgtheater celebrates its 250th anniversary, and on this occasion, the legendary stage itself takes centre stage. From pyrotechnics and winter storm effects to the fly loft and the revolving cylinder stage with its stage wagons, trapdoors, and turntable – everything is put to use. Decorative elements, live songs, and special props from both new and classic productions like Gulliver's Travels, Liliom, and The Magic Flute also make their grand appearance. The stage reminisces about historical performances and inspiring events. A touch of nostalgia, but above all, technically impressive!

Pizzeria Mio
Well, if the pizzaiolo himself won European Pizza Champion 2 years ago, one simply has to try out his new place. Pizzeria Mio has opened in Wien Mitte, paying homage to the iconic Neapolitan wheel. Whether “traditional” with tomato sauce, bianche (without), or fritti – everything tastes classic, but truly delicious. Vegan options are also available, and for something a little more unusual, they serve truffle pizza or a Nutella pizza for dessert. What really stands out, though, is the friendly and welcoming service. It's a wonderful antidote to Viennese grumpiness and you’ll be full on top of that ;-)
